“Tia, do you know who that kid is you were chatting to yesterday?” Jack asked as I was cleaning the equipment. Jack worked with me, but he was a bit older we started at this gym around the same time so we had grown quite close.

“He said his name was matt, I think I must have seen him in here a couple of times before, why?”

“You’ve seen him in here before because for the last 2 weeks he’s been sitting on that machine staring at you whilst you train Jacob!”

“WHAT?!” it was weird because once Jack said that, I realised, the reason I had felt someone staring at me is because they were. Matt was. Come to think of it, I had seen him round the gym; he always came in at the same time a Jacob at left when I left. “Who is he?”

“He’s a boxer, relatively new to the gym, he trains every morning then comes up here and stares at you all afternoon.”

“A boxer?” I asked, thinking back on him and picturing his massive arms and ripped chest.

“Yeah, he’s pretty good I’m told.” Jack replied, “But be careful Tia, he’s trouble, serious trouble.”

“Trouble?” I’m usually attracted to trouble; bad boys have always been my type. I can’t deny it, Matt’s gorgeous, but I wasn’t attracted to him, in fact he repulsed me!

“Yeah, a bit of a ladies man, from what I’ve heard, he has more women in a week than he has meals!”

“Eughhh” I laughed, I wasn’t surprised though, the way Matt had acted around me, along with his piercing good looks, it wasn’t any wander he was a hit with the girls

“Anyway, you get home, I can clear the rest of this up!” Jack smiled.

“You sure?” Jack nodded “ok thanks Jack, see you tomorrow”

As I stepped outside the wind hit me like a bus, it was freezing! I zipped my jacket up and put my headphones in, ready to run home. But just as I was about to go a hand gripped my waist.

“Hey gorgeous.” A voice whispered in my ear.

I was speechless, frozen to the spot I was standing on, my heart was racing. I turned slowly, still holding my breath.

“Matt?” I observed quietly, my eyes now fixed on his glittering brown orbs.

“I thought you might need a lift.” He smiled.

“No thanks.” I replied sharply, shaking free of his grip, “I’m fine”

As I turned to walk away, I lost my balance on the ice and fell flat on my bum. Smooth. I tried to get up, style it out and all that. But as I stood up I gasped as a searing pain shot through my left ankle, Matt ran over and grasped my arm, starting to pull me up.

“Matt, let go. I’m fine.”

“No you’re not, look at you, you can’t bear any weight on that leg!” He replied sympathetically.

“Just leave me Matt.” I croaked, tears rippling in my eyes.

“Let me take you home Tia, I’m not leaving you like this,” before I could protest further, my legs were knocked from under me, and I found my arms clinging around Matt’s neck as his strong arms supported behind my knees and back. He carried me across the car park and placed me carefully in the front seat of his deep red range rover.

We sat through most of the journey in silence, I noticed Matt look my way a couple of times and wink, a smirk constantly spread across his face; it made me shiver.

“Turn right into here.” I said as we approached the camp.

“But this is an army base?” Matt retorted, confused.

“Yes. Is that a problem?” I replied sharply. I rolled down my window at the gate. Jonny was on duty again.

“Oh Tia it’s you! I didn’t recognise you there!” he gave a querying look towards Matt, “do I need to open the vehicle gates?”

“No,” I replied, shooting a look in Matt’s direction, “he’s not staying.”

I yanked at the car door, attempting to get out. Matt wound my window up. The door was locked.

“Leaving without as much as a thank you?” Matt said, mock hurt hiding in his words.

“Thanks.” I said bluntly, “can you let me out now please.”

“Anything for you gorgeous,” he winked, smirking as he released the child lock that was holding my door, “same again tomorrow?”

“Goodnight Matt.” I spat, slamming the door behind me.

“Who was that then?” Jonny asked, nodding towards Matt’s car, which was still stationary at the entrance

“He’s nobody, I fell at the gym and he offered me a lift home,” I replied.

“Ah I see, would you like me to help you to the door?”

“No, I’ll be ok thanks, goodnight Jonny.”

“Sleep well Tia.”
