The sky was dark that night, nothing illuminating them except the few stars and the full moon, just enough to get a good look at each other. The air was chilly, at least that's how it felt to Kira. She was shivering slightly, her fingers numbing more and more as the night went by. As she rubbed her hands together, hoping to preserve heat, she saw Kuroo removing his jacket and offering it to her instead.

Kira was hesitant to accept, but she gave in, muttering a small thank you as she wrapped herself with it.

"You should care for yourself more."

"I appreciate the concern," she let out a brief, breathy laugh, "though I'm not sure if you really do mean well."

"Who knows?" Kuroo shifted himself to leant on the handrail, making it easier for him to study her, "though I believe I'm the one who should be wary of you."

Kira snorted in response, "it never fails to amuse me, the hatred your kind bear towards us. If killing me was your intention, then do it quick."

"Oh no, I couldn't possibly do that," Kuroo snickered as he waved her off, "Lord Oikawa warn me not to. You are, after all, the queen's guest."

"Then?" She raised her eyebrows slightly in surprise, her fingers clawing onto the jacket covering her smaller build.

"I told you that I want to talk."

"About what, exactly?" Kira narrowed her gaze to the male.

"Anything really," he replied, "It's not often I get the chance to do this."

For a few moments, Kuroo fell silent, deep in thought before he decided to speak up, "I wonder why exactly did you decide to become a witch?"

"Being a witch is in my blood, my late mother was a witch herself," Kira answered truthfully, "how about you?"

Kuroo cast a small smile down to his feet, "I am the son of a witch hunter either, though, I suppose that wasn't the reason I became one"

"How so?"

"It's not something odd to have enemies as a witch hunter, and for that exact reason, my late mother was cursed to a disease that had her bedridden for most of her remaining life"

Kira hummed in response as she too diverted her attention elsewhere, fully understanding the pain of losing one's mother, "that's unfortunate"

"True," Kuroo sighed, "more so when I found out it was not the disease that killed her. She was killed by another witch when she still has more of her life to live for"

For a split second, Kira's eyes widened, though it went unnoticed by the male in front of her. She glanced at him, his eyes were still glued to the ground, his vision was blurred from the tear that threatened to spill. The one before her was something that reminded her of her younger days, and it pained her so much that she couldn't bear to watch.

Blinking his tears away, Kuroo cleared his throat before looking back up, "I apologize."

Kira shook her head in response, "I know how you feel."

Kuroo sighed as he nodded, pushing himself back up before walking approaching the door. He was just about to walk out when he heard her calling out to him, stopping him in his tracks. Kira sat still, facing away from him as she spoke, "For whatever reason that you call me out here, I'm guessing you didn't get the answer you were looking for."

Kuroo blinked sluggishly, feeling his fatigue finally setting in, "you're right, I didn't."

Kira nodded slightly, standing up before facing him fully, "then I have no reason to walk on eggshells."

She gave him a tired smirk, crossing her arms above her chest, "maybe it's time you tell the noblewoman how you really feel because the fate that awaits you is uncertain."

"Really now?" Kuroo flashed an equally smug grin, "then I suggest you bid your friends farewell either because this point onwards is war"
