Chapter 16:

Buying Costumes

James Potter was at Hogsmeade with his friends in deep thought, something, that, even if it often happened, nobody seemed to notice. After potions lesson, they had all rushed out of the castle to work on their costumes.The Marauders were wandering through the windy streets and talking about the upcoming Halloween Ball. Sirius had many ideas, one more inappropriate than the other and James had to explain him more than once that he wasn't the only one planing it, as (Jasmine) Evans was Headgirl. Remus didn't help really; he only said that James should plan it with Evans and stop asking them, while Peter was, as always, not helpful. So James had to come up with the ideas himself and complain bout how much time he had to spend with Evans.

Truth is, he didn't mind it actually. Evans was a pretty cool girl and totally different to her sister. Lily had almost never ever talked to him without insulting him and turned him down the entire time. When they got partnered in potions, she never helped him, and got the entire merit to herself. Once he could've sweared that he saw her adding ingredients in his potion. And then the conversation they overheard at their house...He didn't really know what to think. Jasmine was almost the contrary. She had perfectioned their potion, not her and they often had nice, small talks. She accepted his ideas and listened to him. She was kind and collected in some kind of way. After seeing her so...vulnerable the day they had Boggarts, he had immediately decided to follow and comfort her. He didn't know why, but it just felt right.

,,Prongs!" Sirius suddenly yelled him out of his thoughts.

,,Yes, Padfoot?"

,,There's Madam Frankenstein's Halloween Costumes Shop. Should  we look in there?"

James agreed and they walked over there. As soon as they entered, they immediately walked to the animal's section. They knew what their costumes would be: Jams would go as a stag, due to his Animagus form, Sirius as a dog and Peter as rat for the same reason, while Remus (they forced him to) would be dressed as a Werewolf. They started searching for their costumes, when suddenly they heard a large shriek:

,,Eeeeeek!!! Jas, you have to try this on!"

,,Ehrm, no thanks Mar, it's really not my style"

,,Oh, come on, Jas! Marlene is right! Try!It!On!"

James recognized the voices; Marlene McKinnon, Jasmine Evans and Alice Fortscue. Sirius walked over to them:

,,Why, hello my ladies. What brings you here?"

,,Black" Evans said ,,We're searching for our costumes and—No, Marlene McKinnon, I am NOT wearing that!"

Marlene had just appeared with a way too revealing outfit, so revealing, that even Sirius looked disgusted at it.

,,So you greet Sirius but you ignore me?" James said as he appeared next to Sirius. Jasmine rolled her eyes:

,,Yes Potter, I ignore you. Oh, hello Remus!" Moony had just walked over to them ,,Remus, you need to help me!" She whisper-shouted ,,Mar is driving me crazy!"

,,How about this one?" Alice suddenly asked and held  a  in front of her.

,,Hmm, yes that could work. I'm going to buy that. Thanks, Alice" Evans walked to the counter and payed: ,,So, what are you guys buying?"

Remus shrugged

,,Actually," Sirius said, smirking, ,,I already bought your costumes, so everything is settled then."

The seven teenagers left the store.

,,Ah yes!" Evans suddenly exclaimed ,,Potter, we need to get the decorations! Remus, you can come too, as you're prefect, but the others, shoo,shoo!"

'The others' pouted and left to the castle.

,,So, where do we go first?" Evans asked them. James shrugged: ,,Wherever you want, m'lady" and bowed.

Remus sent him a short look, that clearly said 'we are talking later'.

,,Remus? Have an idea?"

,,How about we get the decorations first?"
