Chapter 105: Alexander Graham Bell

Their middle school fitness test video had made quite a few of them realise a show format that had been sitting right in front of their eyes for quite some time: 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?' type quizzing. It's Shayne who ends up pitching it first, and with the help of a couple of writers and producers, they settle on a Jeopardy-style show, and they settle on Shayne as the host. They go for the middle school angle first to fit in with the original show, although they have a bunch more ideas up their sleeves if it does go well.

"Dude is too smart, wouldn't be fair for him to compete," Courtney had commented, in their final planning meeting, Shayne blushing and putting on a grimace towards her in response, although he quickly accepts the hosting role. He doesn't currently have a hosting job on Smosh Pit, so why not?

"Alright, today we're going to find out if these four idiots remember anything they learned in middle school!" he intros the video, when they film it midway through their next shoot week. Courtney laughs along with Kimmy, while Olivia and Noah look mildly mock-offended at the designation. "Our contestants today are Olivia, Keith, Kimmy and Courtney!"

"Hey, why aren't you answering the questions?" Courtney teases, watching Shayne turn awkward in response, just as she'd hoped.

"Uh- I- they tested me and I knew all of it," he replies, turning it back on the others.

"Oh, yeah, you got a Bachelors," Courtney laughs.

"So does Kimmy!" Shayne defends, before pushing on with the actual game, reading through the list of available categories. They cheer openly at the final category – Disney Channel Original Movies from the 90s – and Shayne takes the easy bait, "okay, you guys clearly know one of the categories."

They banter, for a minute – mostly about Olivia's eyebrows or lack thereof – before Shayne finishes explaining the game and asks who wants to go first. He goes with Kimmy, because she's the only one that doesn't volunteer, unsurprised when she chooses one of the Disney Channel bonus round questions up first, Courtney quickly buzzing in with the correct answer.

"Let's do geography for 100, Shayne-Alex!" she instructs him, when it's her turn to pick a question. Olivia gets in with the answer this time, before choosing one of the random category questions next.

"Okay, who was the 2nd President of the United States?" he asks, everyone falling into concentrated silence as they start to think. It's Courtney who ends up pressing the buzzer, first, although she hesitates before she gives an answer she kind of already knows is wrong.

"Woodrow... Wilson?" she offers.

"Uh... no," Shayne emphasises, with an expectant glance, although the names everyone else throws out as alternatives are easily much worse, until he finally relieves the pressure and gives them the answer – John Adams.

"Isn't that a beer?" Kimmy asks.

"Yeah, yeah, that sounds like a beer," Keith agrees.

"Yeah, that's a beer – Shayne knows! John Adams is a beer, right?" Courtney agrees with them, turning to point at him for assistance, vaguely remembering him drinking one at some point.

"That's Samuel Adams and Courtney there's literally some in our fridge, you should know that," he answers, exasperated, "how many times can you all be wrong in a row?"

They don't do any better, for a couple of rounds, and Courtney manages to make him struggle not to burst out laughing when she jumps at the buzzer for the inventor of the telephone and, failing a real answer, quickly answers 'John Adams'. Olivia gives a couple of equally incorrect answers, as Courtney wracks her brain, sure that she has that information somewhere-
