I knew there was a reason why this place seemed so familiar! I had visited it in the Forbidden Realm! I refused to think I was once the Princess of immortals and this was my home, but knowing about my trip to the castle how could Niklaus not tell me something like this!
“Ambrose? Talk to me please!” Niklaus pleads as I storm down the hall not even knowing where I was going.
“Have you ever considered the fact that I don’t want this? I don’t want to be an immortal!”
“Well, it would be against the law to bring you back to the-”
“I don’t want to go back,” I sneer. “I just don’t want to have to drink that damn... whatever it is! I want to stay mortal!”
“It isn’t like I want you to be immortal... now. That was my father who-”
“But you still want me to be immortal someday! Why can’t you let me make my own choices?!”
“I’ll... talk to my father,” He sighs and turns me around to face him before I can protest. His blue eyes gaze into mine and I feel frozen. “Please don’t make this difficult. I won’t make you drink the elixir, but you do realize there will be some penalty by staying human.”
We make it to the parlor without another word. We find his parents sitting on a couch, the only other seats in the room are on a couch across from them. Not wanting to be near Niklaus, at the moment, I scoot to the edge as far as I possibly can.
“Father, before we discuss the ball, Ambrose has something she wants to tell you.”
I glare at him with my icy blue eyes. How dare he put me on the spot! I don’t even know this intimidating man... king... immortal! And now I am supposed to request something from him? I think very negative thoughts to Niklaus hoping my anger is as clear as a bell.
The King looks amused, “I hope it isn’t anything too bad.”
“Well, I don’t want to be immortal; I want to stay human,” I catch Niklaus looking at me and decide to add, “At least for now.”
“I see,” He nods. “Well, we can’t force you to drink the elixir-”
Niklaus receives at look from his father, and defends himself, “She refused to drink and you gave me specific orders!”
“Niklaus,” The Queen scolds. “I thought I taught you how to treat ladies properly!”
“Lady?” He snorts.
I glare daggers at him, imagine him getting burned in a tub of acid and burned at the stake all in the same instant.
“I sense an unspoken attraction,” The King murmurs to his Queen - I am almost sure he did it purposely so I could hear.
“ATTRACTION!” Niklaus and I exclaim in the same second. “To this skinny little brat?” “To this ill-mannered jerk?”
“Ambrose, you will not become immortal until you desire to. I assume that elixir tasted rotten to you?”
I nod, “That could be an understatement.”
“That is the secret to our elixir. The royal family brews it and distributes it to all the immortals of the world, but your father and I were friends long ago. We were taught that the elixir, has its own shield. If the person ingesting it does not desire or should not desire to become immortal at the time than the drink will taste vile and should not have any affect on them. That is how it affects humans. It is up to fate who and who does not become immortal since the gift of living forever is so rare and precious.”
