John stood in the waiting area of the airport. He stood waiting very patiently. Eddie wasn't far away reading a magazine. The plane was just landing and Denise would soon be there. John was excited. He had missed Denise very much.
About ten minutes passed. John was still waiting. A lot of other people were around him. Then the passengers started to come out. People were hugging on another, shaking hands, and greeting each other.
After some time, John saw Denise. He smiled and waved towards her to get her attention. Denise walked as fast as she could towards him. She was much larger than John had expected, much larger than a two-month-pregnant-woman should be. Her blond hair bounced with each step she took and he blue eyes were squinted in a smiled.
When Denise reached John, he hugged her tightly.
"Oh my god, I missed you," Denise said.
"I missed you too," John said.
Denise looked over and saw Eddie. He was still reading the same magazine. She smiled. "Eddie's here too!" She exclaimed.
Eddie looked up. He nodded at her coolly. He noticed how she was much too large to be two months pregnant. She looked somewhere around the eighth or ninth month, like she could have the baby at any time. When Denise and John weren't looking at him, his brow furrowed. Was Denise lying to John about the who father was?
John turned to Eddie. "Well, let's go get Denise's luggage," He said.
Eddie looked up. "Oh, yeah," He said.
Eddie stood up and followed after John and Denise. John had his arm wrapped around Denise. They headed towards the baggage area of the airport. The couple and Eddie waited for Denise's bags. When her bags were rolled up, John picked up them. Now that they had Denise's bags, they walked out of the airport and headed towards the bus.
Bobby was already sitting in the driver's seat. Jeff and Mary were in the very back. When John and Denise got on the bus, Mary watched them silently. John walked Denise towards Jeff and Mary.
"Denise, this is Mary," John said.
Mary smiled at Denise. "It's nice to meet you," Mary said holding out her hand.
Denise smiled back and shook Mary's hand. "Same to you," She said.
Jeff smiled up at Denise. "It's great to see you again," He said.
"It's great to see you again too, Jeff," Denise said.
"How far along are you, Denise?" Bobby asked from the front. He looked back at her in a testing sort of way.
"Oh, only a few months," Denise said. "I probably won't have the baby anytime soon."
Jeff and Eddie glanced over at each other. Her due date couldn't be more than a month away. Mary frowned slightly for a moment, but found a mask of politeness as soon as Denise looked over at Mary. John was smiling widely. He had said something about marrying her before she had the baby.
Bobby frowned way up at the front. No one could really see him, but he looked very upset with John. How could John be so stupid?
"Well, I guess it's time for us to go," Bobby said.
John and Denise sat down. Bobby started driving. The bus bounced on rocks on the road. John was always making sure that Denise was alright. Mary looked over at Jeff.
"Does he..." She started to asked, but Jeff shushed her.
"Let Johnny think what he wants to think," Jeff whispered into her ear.
Mary nodded. She looked towards the front of the bus. John had his arm over Denise's shoulders.
Bobby was driving the bus down the highway now. They had two days until they had to get to the next concert. They had plenty of time to reach it. The bus hit a pothole and it bounced up and hit the ground rather hard. Denise rested her hand under her stomach and made a face. John looked over at her and made sure she was okay.
Denise insisted she was fine. She still looked rather surprised over the bump. Was she surprised at something other than the bump?
The bus was now in town. Bobby was driving the bus towards a filling station. The bus was running low on gas. He found a station and pulled into it.
Bobby got out of the bus and got out. A man walked towards him. "You want me to fill it?" The man asked.
"Yeah," Bobby said.
Eddie came running out of the bus. He looked kind of scared. "Denise... She's having the baby," He exclaimed.
Bobby turned to the man. "I'm sorry. I gotta go," He said.
The man watched as the bus sped off.
