Jeff had all his stuff put up and he was staring at himself in the mirror. Did he look alright?
There was a knock on the door. "Come in," Jeff said without looking from the mirror.
John walked in. Jeff tore himself from the mirror and peeked out of the bathroom to looked towards John.
"Can I talk with you?" John asked.
"Sure, shoot," Jeff said walking out of the bathroom and heading towards his bed.
"It's about Denise," John said.
"What about her?" Jeff asked without really looking at John.
"She's pregnant," John said looking at the ground.
Jeff stopped moving. He turned back towards John. "She's what?"
"She's pregnant," John said.
Jeff ran his fingers through his hair. He messed it up without thinking. "Is it yours?" He asked.
John nodded.
Jeff sat down on the bed with a sigh. "Oh lord, Johnny," Jeff said shaking his head.
"I want to go see her," John said.
"I understand that. How far along is she?" Jeff asked.
"Two months," John said.
"We'll be back before she has the baby," Jeff said. "Can you wait 'til then?"
"I can, but I really want to be with her," John said.
"Can you send for her?" Jeff asked.
"Yeah, probably," John said.
Jeff shook his head. "I can pay for her flight," He said.
"Thanks, Jeff," John said.
"You marry her, though, you hear me," Jeff said. "I don't tolerate germs that knock girls up and don't stay with them."
"I wanted to marry her, I just didn't imagine it would be so soon," John said.
Jeff looked at his watch. He jumped. It was almost seven. He ran to the bathroom to fix his hair.
"I'm sorry, Johnny. I gotta run," Jeff said as he rushed out of his hotel room.
John watched Jeff run off. "Have a nice date," John said almost to himself.
Jeff was already half-way out of the hotel. He was running towards the general store which was very close. Mary was sitting inside the store. He slowed down so he could catch his breath before entering. He felt his hair to make sure it wasn't messed up.
Jeff walked into the general store. Mary stood up and walked towards him.
"Hey," Jeff said smiling.
"You're just on time," Mary said.
Jeff looked at his watch. It was seven.(A germ means a pest. This story was going in a much more morbid direction in this chapter, but I changed my mind after thinking about it. I'll save that for later...)
