third person.

mollie had been sat in silence opposite diana for almost the past hour, slouched in the seat with her arms folded and occasionally letting out a sigh whilst her therapist watched her do so, a frown on her face.

diana had tried to initiate a conversation, more times than once, but with mollie's small talk and not wanting to open up about anything, it seemed almost impossible to move forward and so they were simple waiting for the sessions to come to a close.

but with the state the girl seemed to be in, and the little progress that she had made worried diana, and every sentence that mollie did say seemed to bring more attention to how she was actually feeling, it was something the woman wanted to help with.

"i know you don't want to speak about anything." diana spoke up, breaking their silence before she glanced towards the floor, soon looking back at the girl, "but for this past hour, most things you've said mentioned people not dealing with your problems for much longer and that certain things wouldn't matter."

"mhm," she nodded.

"do you mean people you're outgrowing or is that meant to be a cry for help?" diana asked, watching mollie glance up at her before she let out a sigh.

"i don't want help," mollie replied, "it would just be much easier for everyone if i wasn't here."

"and you've had suicidal thoughts in the past week?" she asked the girl, who gave her a nod before shrugging, "... do you have a plan?"

"our sessions finished." mollie told her as she stood herself up, grabbing her bag before diana shook her head.

"sit back down, i want ten more minutes." diana said as the girl sat herself down again and looked over at diana.

"diana i don't have to tell you anything." mollie said whilst folding her arms, "you're a bit invasive."

"you're avoiding the question because you have the answer i don't want to hear," she raised her eyebrows as mollie went quiet, glancing down at the floor while she scratched the back of her neck.

"i told you that you can't change who i am," mollie replied, "let's just call it quits on the therapy thing, we had our moments and now-"

"who drove you here?" diana asked her, interrupting the girls sentence before she let out a sigh.

"max did."

"okay," she nodded as mollie stayed silent, beginning to fiddle with the rings on her fingers, "i think you know where i'm going with this."

"if you're reporting what i said," the girl began, "i will never speak to you again."

"regardless of how much you trust me and our bond, there are things i have to report because of safety," she explained, "i can't keep-"

"i won't come back here."

"it's best if we-"

"diana." she interrupted her, "please don't."

ignoring mollie's comments, the woman soon took a  deep breath before she stood up and held the door to her office open for the girl stood in disbelief, "our session is up."

"okay i said a few things but that doesn't mean i'll actually do it," mollie explained, walking over to her before trying to close the door again, "just another ten minutes."

"i have another person to see," diana told her, "it's for your benefit mollie, i have to report something if it's a harm to you."

"don't report it," she shook her head with a few tears in her eyes, "it won't help me."

"mollie," diana said, "you need to go, i have other clients."

"you're a piece of shit," mollie shook her head as she rolled her eyes, leaving the room they had been sat in and storming down the hall while diana tried to prevent the frown appearing on her face as she went to call for her next patient.

and as the girl left the building, she walked over to where max was leant against his car, his arms folded and staring at the floor while he waited for her to finish with her session.

"i'm not coming back here." she said as max looked up at her before noticing the tears falling down her face.

"hey, hey." max grabbed her arm, causing mollie to turn to look at him, "why?"

"i said too much and now she's going to report it because she's worried about my safety but i don't want to go anywhere," mollie explained, her breathing beginning to pick up, "i just wanted to tell someone i forgot at the time she has to report that stuff i don't-"

"it's okay," max interrupted her, "control your breathing, it's fine."

"it's not," she shook her head, "i'll probably be sent away to even more shitty people who can't help."

"no you won't," max replied, wrapping his arms around his sister and pulling her in for a hug, "you're not going anywhere, i'll make sure of it."

"you can't promise that."

"i'll do everything i can," he reassured her as mollie subtly nodded before she pulled away from the boy and wiped her eyes, "let's talk in the car where it's a little warmer."

"okay," mollie replied before the pair got into max's car, pulling away from the building mollie had just been in as max continued to speak.

"i love you," he told her, "and i care about you and i need you here more than you think i do."

"i'm not any help to you."

"yes you are." max nodded, "you're like my little break from the world, like a little breather when things get a little overwhelming."

"what?" she looked over at him confused, "you just say that because i live with you."

"come on mollie you've shown me love when mom didn't," he shrugged, "and when dad died-"

"dad died when i was like three."

"you slept in my bed to make sure i didn't go to sleep crying," max told her as mollie smiled slightly, "you didn't even understand what was happening."

"i just didn't like seeing you sad." the girl folded her arms, "i do now, i laugh about it."

"no you don't," he laughed, "you check on me every few hours if i'm sad, you do it with everyone. they appreciate it."

"you think?"

"i know they do." max nodded, "you help me more than you think, i'm not letting you go anywhere."

"does that mean you won't let me move in with nic?" she asked as he sighed.

"no, if you want to do that you can." he said, "i'll be upset but i trust nic a lot, she's the only person i'll allow."

"okay."

"stop worrying so much, i'll get it sorted." max glanced over at her before he pulled into a dunkin drive thru, "are you hungry?"

"no," mollie shook her head.

"not even for a cookie?"

"fine, i'll have a cookie." she looked over at him, "and my usual drink."

"yes, i know." the boy nodded, rolling his window down before grabbing his card to have it ready to pay.
