During the time of the Black Plague, Helem Haselhurst was a humble villager, struggling to provide for his beloved wife and daughter. One fateful day, he witnessed a plague doctor collapse and die from the very disease he sought to cure. Desperation drove Helem to seize the doctor's garments, hoping to disguise himself and scam the fearful villagers for money to sustain his family. However, this act unwittingly sealed a pact with Small Death, one of the enigmatic Brothers Death, cursing Helem to become an agent of Small Death.
Helem was inducted into the "Plague Killers," a clandestine group of superhuman plague doctors, each endowed with powers from the Brothers Death. Their mission was to thwart the Sarkic Cults (Now known as the Sarkicism), who sought to ravage the world with their malevolent flesh virus. The Plague Killers, immune to the virus, trained rigorously in combat with bows, swords, and bombs. Helem's natural aptitude quickly propelled him to become a leading figure in their crusades.
After amassing wealth and renown, Helem returned home, only to find his life shattered. His wife had perished from the plague, her body partially devoured by the Sarkic abominations. His daughter, though kidnapped, survived due to the immunity she inherited from him. This tragedy steeled Helem's resolve, driving him to eradicate the Sarkic threat.
In a climactic battle, Helem faced Pestilence, the fearsome leader of the Sarkic Cults, and emerged victorious. This triumph granted the Plague Killers their humanity back. Yet, Helem chose to remain in his cursed form, dedicating his prolonged existence to ensuring no plague would ever again threaten humanity.
