When we were finally done with lunch Mr and Mrs Holme (Noah's parents) called me so we could talk. I was a little baffled they called me because they never really did talk to me. Something told this was Noah's doing. Maybe he told them to call me for my housing situation which personally I think is no problem.
"Hi, Jeremy, it's been long." Mr Holme said with a small smile while Mrs Holme only mimicked his smile.
I nodded at Mr Holme's statement once again avoiding saying much.
"How have you been?" Mrs Holme asked.
"I have been good, how are you guys?" I asked tugging on Ethan's jacket.
I don't know how but the jacket made me feel safe and confident just like how Ethan made me feel.
"We've been fine, we just wanted to know how you stand financially? You know if you are having trouble paying rent or running out of food, do not hesitate to ask...we are family after all." Mr Holme said wrapping a hand around Mrs Holme's shoulder.
"I'm fine." I said in a low voice keeping my head down.
I can't believe Noah talked them into this. It was bad enough he was on my case now he has got his parents also. He is just worried about you. I wish he could worry less.
"We thought you'd say that but we were wondering if perhaps we could pay for college. You are a intelligent kid...we'd hate your intelligence to go to waste."
"I've been saving up for it and I still am...I'll be fine." I brushed off their gesture.
Yes, I've been saving but it wasn't enough...yet but I wasn't about to ask them to simply just let me be a burden.
No way.
"You know Jeremy, it's not a sin to accept help from others especially people who consider themselves family to you."
I don't get why they don't understand that I don't need help and it's really not about pride. I won't feel good with them doing everything for me. I looked at Mr and Mrs Holme trying to find words that were not disrespectful.
"I have got to go now but thank you for your concerns Mr and Mrs Holme." I stood up fast and made my way upstairs to my room.
I took off Ethan's jacket and as if out of natural habit I sniffed it. Hmmm. It smelt masculine with a hint of pine trees. Before I could soak up even more of the smell there was a knock on the door and I threw the jacket on the bed.
"Come in!" I exclaimed and Ariel walked in looking formal as ever.
"Hey, we are going to get massages and everything ready for tomorrow. I was wondering if you'd like to come?" She rised a brow.
I cleared my throat thinking of a polite way to disagree.
"He is never going to agree." Noah said coming out of no where holding a grey suit.
"He is...right, I'm not a out going person but I hope you guys enjoy."
"Thanks...could you look after Ben?" It looked like she wasn't sure whether to ask me or not.
"Of course, I will." I nodded.
"Thanks, Sugar." she grinned and blew a kiss at me as she left.
"Looks like you guys are getting along." Noah said sitting on my bed with the suit on his thigh.
I shrugged sitting next to him.
"She's a nice person." I told him after a while.
"Tell that to Ben." He laughed.
