CHAPTER 25
Vampires and witches. All of them, surrounding both Holden and I. Their malicious faces were etched with ferocity. Their animalistic faces hungry as they stalked toward both Holden and I, forcing our backs to touch as we tried defending ourselves. Laughter, deep laughter and high pitched children laughter, echoing through my ears as the creatures stalked closer and closer.
And then suddenly their attentions got turned elsewhere, fear replacing their faces as our army finally started fighting. With the entire defense we had learned against the different species, we were winning. We were winning this war. And then I was walking towards Holden, both our faces engulfed with grins, and just as our hands were going to touch,- all the dead bodies on the floor, all of the werewolves, Holden, suddenly disappeared and I was at Blue Hills, in the dead of the night, the full moon high in the sky, the owls hooting, and anxiety and fear sending shocks through my body.
I awoke abruptly, a sheen coat of sweat on my body. I glanced down at Holden, who was sleeping peacefully, and looked out the open window. It was open. As I walked towards the window, I saw the waning gibbous of the moon. So close to looking like the full moon in my dream. I closed the window and hugged my arms, still facing the window, staring out the window as I zoned out…
The dream… I was at the field, the one where it looked like the war would take place. But then I was also at Blue Hills, the place where I had heard that voice just months ago. And that full moon… Could it be? Could the war take place at Blue Hills? Was there a clue, a sign of some sort there that would or could help us win this battle, this war? Could we unexpectedly attack the Circle? But Holden had already searched all the grounds and land when I was lost and had gotten bit by that vampire.
“Emily?” Holden’s husky voice broke through my thoughts. “What’re you doing?”
“I couldn’t sleep. Look, Holden, remember when I had gotten bitten by that vampire?”
Holden closed his eyes tightly then opened them. “Yes. Why?”
“Did you search the Blue Hills when you looked for me?”
“No. We didn’t think you could have wandered that far.”
“Remember when I told you I heard that voice at Blue Hills? When I was blind, with Kelsey?” I asked.
“Where are you trying to get to, Emily?”
“What if that is the Circle’s headquarters? What if that is where they meet and talk? What if we can get them, before they get us?”
“You need to get some sleep. It’s late.” Holden turned and pulled the covers over him. “Plus, we’ve looked for their headquarters and meeting places everywhere, millions of times. No success.” He yawned.
“Have the pack searched Blue Hills?”
Holden stayed quiet.
“See! It’s evidence. I heard those voices there months back. It won’t hurt if we check Blue Hills again for the Circle.”
“We probably have searched it, Em. Now please, go to sleep.” He said, now facing me.
“I can’t though. I can’t go to sleep. Holden, do you have the lists of places we’ve searched?”
