Chapter 4

I woke up with a pounding headache, wincing when I made a sudden move to get up. My eyesight blackened for a few seconds, making me feel dizzy. I lay back down on my bed. I started to get nervous and scared.

‘Mom!’ I yelled, as I carefully took deep breaths, trying to prevent myself from having a panic attack.

My mom ran into my room, her eyes still dazed from sleep. She noticed the tears that leaked out of my eyes, and ran to the side of the bed. “My eyes - they blacked out.” I cried.

“Can you see now? Are your eyes still blacked out?” she asked desperately. When I opened my mouth, a choked, strangled cry came out instead, and I couldn’t get my voice to work.

“Can you still see? Honey, can you still see?” my mom asked worriedly. My dad came in the room a few seconds later, his face covered with worry, as he also kneeled down beside me on the other side of the bed.

Both their alarmed voices echoed in my ears, before unconsciousness finally took over me.

*********

I opened my eyes to a white room, my tongue feeling like sandpaper. Looking around, I saw a T.V hung on the wall in front of me. I was in a hideous white, and baby blue gown that ended just above my ankles. Needles and tubes were connected on my arm, which all had fluids running through them into me. It took me a few seconds to realize, that I was in a hospital.

Memories flooded my brain; my parents worried faces planted in my memory. Am I blind? Before having another panic attack, I realized I could still  see. I laughed lightly at my stupidity.

Looking to the side, I found my father sleeping upright in a chair, my mother nestled comfortably on his lap. Her head rested on his chest, and I smiled. Yeah, they had been fighting lately, but they still loved each other fiercely. Nothing could ever break my parents apart.

 Nothing.

I opened my mouth to speak, however my throat had another plan for me, as I started coughing from the scratching sensation in my dry throat.

Both my parents woke up in a flash. My mom’s eyes were glossy with tears as she looked at me. “Water!”  I mouthed to her.

My dad’s lips stretched in a grin, while my mom laughed, both of them happy, and content that I was able to see, and that I hadn’t lost my eyesight. Yet.

After my mom handed me a glass of water, I chugged it down greedily. I loved the feeling of the cold liquid washing down my throat. It was very refreshing; making me feel alive. Wiping my mouth with the back of my hand, I mumbled a ‘thanks’ as I set the glass down on the counter beside my bed.

My parents hugged me, saying how grateful they were that I was able to see. They were really scared that I had already lost my eyesight, when it should’ve been lost fully in a few weeks.

“How long have I been unconscious for?” I asked once they stopped talking, resting my head on the cold pillow.

“About eight hours.” My mom answered. My eyes grew wide with shock.

“I should go get the doctor to check up on you.” My dad said, getting up. A few moments later, a male doctor with striking ocean blue eyes walked in. He had snow colored hair, and wrinkles around his mouth and eyes. He looked old, but his muscular frame suggested he could be a werewolf.
