Chapter 7
"That is supposed to be..." My mom trailed off as she looked at the brochure in her hand, that she got from the hotel, along with numerous other maps, she acquired from the gift shops we stopped by.
"The Freedom Trail! It's like were reliving history all over again!" she finished off.
"And when we turn this corner we'll see- there it is! Fox 25 news! Honey, that's where they broadcast the news reports for Boston." Mom told me.
I rolled my eyes, and leaned back in the seat. I closed my eyes, bathing in the heat that emanated from the glaring sunlight. My eyesight was dull now. I could barely see the words on the book, so reading wasn't an option for the car ride. All I could do was listen to some music from my iPod and wait. After I told my mother my eyesight was close to gone, she insisted we go to the hospital, before we were going to go to the house. Eventually, everyone agreed.
After a good thirty minutes, the car came to a jerking stop. I kept my eyes closed as I relaxed.
The car halted to a stop not even an hour later- just a good twenty minutes. "Bathroom breaks already?" I yawned.
"Not quite..." Dad said, and I finally opened my eyes. We were in the middle of the forest. I looked back, and saw the tire tracks. The dense foliage of trees had hidden the narrow road, in which we came from.
"Is someone going on a run or...?" I trailed off as we drove down the bumpy terrain.
"The hospital is somewhere here..." My dad said.
"Were in the middle of a forest... I mean, yeah were werewolves and nobody could know about us, I get why they would build a hospital away from the city and all, but wouldn't it be unusual and odd if you randomly saw a hospital in the middle of a forest?" I asked in a 'duh' type of tone.
"That's why this hospital is underground." Dad said, as if deep in thought.
I stayed quiet. How on earth were we supposed to find the hospital if it was underground?
The sound of the tires, coming in contact with the soil was soft, but suddenly the sound changed, and was more hard and deep. If I didn't have my sensitive werewolf hearing, I wouldn't have heard the sudden change of sound. But I did hear it.
"Did you hear that?" Dad grinned, and the car came to a jolting stop.
"Yeah, but what was it? What does it mean?" My mom asked, as she looked around.
"It means were at the hospital."
Both my mom and I gave him a bewildered look. Dad sighed and started explaining.
"That change in sound, was the tires coming in contact with the steel under the layers of dirt, leaves and rocks. The head of the Webster pack designed it, so that only werewolves could hear it. That's how we make sure werewolves and only werewolves can get into the hospital. The car is standing on some sort of vault now."
Both my mom, and I stuck our heads out the window, and stared at the floor in awe. The Webster Pack had designed it so precisely, so deliberately. It was a smart idea, and the little things the Webster Pack did, was coming into the light, showing why this pack was so strong and smart.
As I stared at the floor, it started descending- like, sinking-descending.
"You might want to put your head inside." My dad suggested. I placed myself back on the seat, my hands against the cool surface of the window, as I looked up. We were going underground. Silence greeted us, and darkness engulfed us for a few seconds, before the sound of mechanics echoed throughout the car.
