Chapter 23

The thermometer finally started beeping. “It’s done.” Holden muttered with the thermometer still in his mouth. I walked over and pulled it, reading the temperature to see if Holden was still sick with his fever. He claimed he was finally feeling better, but I still double checked.

“You’ve gotten better…” I trailed off, biting my lip.

“And…?” He said hopefully.

I looked down at him and sighed. “I guess I’ll let you get back to your Alpha business now.”

Holden grinned broadly and jumped up from his bed, crashing me into his chest for a bone-crushing bear hug.

Yup, he was fully recovered.

“Thank you, Doctor,” He said huskily before dipping his head for a kiss. Just before his lips met mine, though, he said, “Do I have permission to kiss you now?”

I closed my eyes and sighed in response, drowning in the sweet bliss of Holden’s hypnotizing kisses.

“So they left a letter written in blood on your office wall in the headquarters?”  I gasped.

“Yeah. They’re analyzing anything they can about the letter and haven’t found clues yet. It was just a threat, though. Saying their close and that we should get ready.” Holden said nonchalantly as he searched through his closet for something to wear for training the soldiers of the pack. A towel was wrapped around Holden’s muscular waist. I had to stop myself from drooling.

“Well then this is serious. Shouldn’t you be more concerned?”

I stared at his face, trying to concentrate on it and not his muscular body.

“I mean, I am serious about this. But I believe in the generals that are training my soldiers. From this day on until the war, I’m going to train my soldiers to their best. I strongly believe were ready.”

I stared at his face and bit my lip, thinking about it all. Holden's hand was on the towel, ready to pull it off. I hadn't even noticed he was going to change until he raised his eyebrow mockingly and asked, "Do you want to watch?"

I threw a pillow at him. "You have such a dirty mind!" I exclaimed, turning so my back was facing him.

"That's a good thing, right?" Holden said, chuckling as I heard the 'thump' of his towel hitting the floor. My heartbeat fastened, although I'm not quite sure why.....

"You can turn around now," Holden said a few seconds later. I turned around and he was pulling on a white t-shirt. I saw how the muscles on his back constricted. My stomach did a few flips. He walked to the door.

“You ready, darling?” He asked, turning around and leaning on the doorway as if I were the one slowing us down. A smirk danced on his lips.

I hopped out of his bed and let my hand trail down Holden’s chest teasingly. “I’ve been ready, darling,”

Both Holden and I stood among over three hundred werewolves who awaited for further instructions. These men were just a small fraction, a small sliver of our army.
