Chapter 19-
Emily’s P.O.V
Getting up and moving around hasn’t meant so much until I was put onto bed rest. I hadn’t realized how thankful I should have been when I could walk around. Currently, the doctors only let me move around a little bit before I had to go back to bed rest.
Vampire venom is strong, strong even for super natural creatures like us werewolves. It is possible to filter your blood from the venom, but even after that, the venom leaves you weak. It takes a couple of days for you to return to a normal, healthy state.
A nurse came to the house just once to check on me. I had one more day on bed rest before I’d be fully off. On the other hand, Rose visited me every other day, giving me all of the homework I missed… And letting me copy off at the end like every best friend did. She’d stay over the whole day and we’d talk; about anything and everything. When I was alone, though, without any company, I’d stare at the wall and my mind would always somehow wonder over to Holden and the day in the hospital.
He had apologized for everything. I was stunned, so surprised that this was Holden. That the man who rejected me was holding my hand and saying more words to me than he had in weeks, months even. However deep down I knew it wouldn’t last. He hadn’t come to see or talk to me ever since the day in the hospital. He hadn’t even called me! Just a simple, thirty second phone call would be amazing. Now it seemed as if the only thing Holden was good at was rejecting and breaking hearts.
It was mid-afternoon, the sun still high up in the sky. The weather was getting warmer, the summer coming closer. I tried sitting up slowly so I wouldn’t feel any sort of pain. After that, I slowly got up, every motion extremely slow and done with thought and care. Slowly, I walked down the hall. Mom was supposedly cooking for supper, but when I looked down the stairs, I saw her sitting on the couch and talking on the phone. “She’s great now, out of bed rest tomorrow actually.” It was silent as she listened to the person she talked to. “Oh, you should stop by here one of these days! Stay for dinner,” A few more beats of silence. “No, no! I insist. Emily would be so happy to see you.” More silence. “Perfect! Thanks for calling sweety. Alright, see you tomorrow hun. Take care!”
I walked down the stairs, slowly, all the while wondering who she could be talking to. Mom looked up and saw me walking down the stairs. Hopping off the couch, she walked towards me, furious. “Why are you out of bed?”
“I wanted to stretch my legs out.” I said with a shrug.
“Well if you want to ‘stretch your legs out’, then I suggest you to do it tomorrow when your fully recovered before you have to stay another day in bed rest. Come on, move it!” She said, motioning me upstairs. I sighed loudly and went up stairs with Mom behind me. Once I climbed into bed, I asked Mom who she was talking to.
“No one for you to worry about,” She smiled. “And what do you want for lunch?”
“I don’t really care, Mom. As long as it's food.”
Mom kissed my forehead before heading down the stairs. With absolutely no books to read since I had read them all, no homework because I finished it all, even the extra questions we weren’t assigned, I went to my last option; Reading my psychology textbook. I was on page 102, long after the sun went down, when I decided it was time to go to sleep. I closed the lamp light and pulled the thin blanket up to my chin. I gazed out the window, the stars twinkling and contrasting greatly with the dark black sky. I was curious onto who Mom was talking to on the phone. Was it a new boyfriend? Was she cheating on dad? Slowly, I felt my eyes get heavy and sleep consume me.
