Aspen runs from my room, hardly holding it together. And when I know she's run from the house, I go to the window and watch her from there.
It hurts to watch her, but I can't help it.
She climbs quickly into that shitty bus then falls apart inside and I continue to watch. She's parked beneath one of the many street lights, giving this private moment a bloody spotlight.
When two knocks sound at my door, I finally break the perverse staring I'm doing and turn to watch Jared open my door and step inside. "You needed to deal with her on your own." Jared explains.
I wanted him to go with her to my room, I didn't want to be in here alone, but I couldn't wait for her to find something of her sister's while I waited outside.
"And what if I-," I speak but hush my voice and Jared closes my door, coming over to my window, noticing the breakdown is still occurring outside, "I could have killed her in here."
"You're not a killer, Bash." He states.
I'm positive even if I killed a girl in front of him, he would still deny that I'm a monster.
"But I am." My tone is as plain as his. Jared growls and runs his hands through his hair, messing his styled brown hair with his hands.
The first time I was forgiven. And I even forgave myself for it, but this second time? It substantiated exactly what I was always afraid of after the first time. I'm a murderer. A cold monster.
Like good friends do, he reads what's lying behind my words and shakes his head, "You weren't charged with murder with that. That was different and so is this."
I laugh a crazy laugh because this guy is fucking blind. "Jared, I don't want to be left alone again with her. Stop fucking trusting me because people will get hurt."
"You know that girl isn't going to disappear. She's going to keep sniffing around."
Unfortunately, I know he's right about this point.
"I'm asking you as my best mate, keep her away from me." Jared sighs and shakes his head, caught in an argument inside his own head. "And don't lie for me again." I add.
"I didn't lie-"
"You did. You told Aspen I went to my room alone. You and I know I brought her sister in here."
"You blacked out in here, she left--she..." He trails off again, waging a war behind his eyes but I'd had enough tonight.
"Unless you can prove to me you saw her with your own eyes leave my room, I don't want to hear it, mate."
"I-I... I hadn't, ugh." He stammers but my eyes have already gone back to the window, searching for the blue bus across the street but see she has gone.
"Right, I'm going back to bed." I say, wanting him to leave and clamber back into my bed. Jared's head hangs and again I see him debating something but don't care to try and decode it.
