The sound of an alarm jolts me from my deep sleep into the stiff side of Bash's leg

The sound of an alarm jolts me from my deep sleep into the stiff side of Bash's leg. The blanket we're sharing has scrunched up and has been smushed up under the back cushions of the couch, pinned slightly under my body.

The alarm blares again from Bash's phone that's sitting on the glass coffee table, and this time, he jolts awake, gasping, sitting up straight then stares wide-eyed at his palms held in front of his face. His dark hair is sticking up messily and his face shining with sweat. I watch his beautiful features relax as he swipes the alarm off from his phone then he falls back against the couch, "Fuck me," he moans deeply, his morning voice and the choice of words has me wide awake within a second.

"I'm tired too," I lie, avoiding the incredibly strange behavior I just witnessed and yank the blanket from where it's stuffed in the couch then fix it over our legs. "Are you a coffee person?" I ask.

The heels of his hands forcibly rub into his eye sockets, then he speaks, his voice a little less gravely, "Who isn't a coffee person?"

I knew the momentary energy boost would soon dissolve so I stand and start the coffee machine in the kitchen while Bash rolls to his side to face me. I grab the creamer from the stocked full fridge and two mugs from the cabinets then turn to find him watching me.

"You're cute in the morning," he mumbles with a lazy smile.

My chest swells and my belly heats and I keep from smiling like an idiot. "As opposed to the rest of the day? By the way, it's nice to know your phone works for everything but texting me back." Might as well bring it up now, before he gets his coffee.

"What?" His dark brows lift along with his head from the small pillow it's on. "I was goin' to, girly-"

I roll my eyes and stir the coffee, "Uh-huh."

"I was. I went for a ride after dropping you off, which turned into a bloody road trip, then I had an awful chat with Jared and Coleson-"

"You did? What did they say?" I hand him his coffee then take a seat next to his shins stretched out in the spot where I slept.

Bash sets the coffee down and sits up then rakes both hands through his hair and rests his elbows on his knees, "They both said O'Neil told them to keep their alibis confidential. It was all a load of bullshit, to be honest. If I didn't get out of there, I would have beat the shit out of both of them. I'm already on thin ice with MFU, if I was reported to be fighting that's what could be used to have my scholarship taken."

Fine, so he has more than a good excuse for not texting me. I'll let it slide this time. But, him showing up last night out of the blue shocked me, and for a split second scared the shit out of me. "Why did you come back to Magnolia Bar and Grill, Bash?"

"I sort of just found myself there, I guess. I don't have a good answer. When I ride my motorcycle sometimes I cruise around until I realize I've gone eighty miles from Magnolia Falls."
