I wanted to do something special for Reese. I knew how important and how hard she worked to secure Asher as a client. I was excited. My surprise for her would be worth the effort. However I was the one truly surprised, I had everything set. I cooked her favorite meal, steak with garlic rosemary fries, with red wine. I had a bouquet of white roses, her favorite. I also had planned a night of us playing mortal kombat. What I didn't expect was Justin to walk through the door with Reese, laughing at some joke.
"What the fuck is he doing here?" I growl out, my blood starting to boil when I see his smug face.
Reese had her back to me so I must've scared her since she starts screaming bloody murder. She jumps and turns to me with her hand held at her chest breathing heavily. Her eyes slowly start to look over her apartment. Her eyes glanced over the flowers and food and then slowly made their way to me. Her eyes got wide and her full lips parted.
"What is all of this, and what are you doing here?" she says, surprised at what she was seeing. "I thought you left this morning." She steps fully into the living area walking towards the island in the kitchen area to set down her purse.
"He was here this morning?" Justin says with an annoyance to his voice.
"Yeah, I spent the night, got a problem with that?" I ask, glaring at him. I wonder how he would react knowing that I slept with her often. With my arms wrapped around her soft brown skin. Her resting those beautiful curls of hers on my chest. Fuck, we were basically a couple.
Justin snorts, "Don't tell me you're fucking this guy?"
Reese rolls her eyes, "First off, that is none of your business who I sleep with," she gives Justin a look that could kill. "And two," she points at me, " stop making it seem like it was more than it really was. Also, Ky, why are you here?"
"Did you not get my text?" My eyes wandered back over to Justin then back to her. "I told you that I had a surprise for you."
I was starting to get annoyed quickly as Justin started smirking at me.
"Do you have something to say?" I growled at him.
"Not at all. It's just funny how you're acting like the boyfriend here when in reality you'll always be friend zoned," he laughs out loud. My eyes narrowed at him. He didn't know one thing about us. I saw how she treated her other male friends versus me. It was clear I was far from just being in the friend zone. I'm not sure when we changed our dynamic but it was a welcome change for us both.
Before I could say anything Reese sighs and rolls her eyes.
"Either you two get your sexual frustration for each other under control, or you both leave," she hops onto her chair at the counter and folds her arms on top of the counter and lays her head on top of them.
I walk over to Reese and rest my hand on her back. She looks up at me and grins at me, "I'm sorry, I should've known you do something like this."
Brushing away a curly lock that fell out of her bun, I grin back at her, "And I'm sorry for being mean to the guy who's working on getting reported to HR."
She burst into laughter, sitting up and throwing her head back. She turns around in the chair and looks at Justin.
"Maybe we should reschedule for lunch or breakfast tomorrow?"
"That sounds like a great idea. I wouldn't want to cause problems between you and your boyfriend," Justin gasps and acts surprised. "Oh wait I forgot you're not."
I wrap my arms around Reese's waist and glare at him as I kiss her cheek. She stiffens up at first glancing back and forth between me and Justin.
Justin sighs out,"Okay, whatever," he opens the door,"I'll text you tomorrow."
"I'm sorry," Reese says in a soft voice.
"It's fine, you have a goodnight."
He starts to murmur under his breath, "Something you want to say to me," I growl out resting my chin on Reese's shoulder.
He shakes his head and slams the door.
Reese turns in my arms and rests her hands on my chest. She looks at me and frowns,"What?" I ask.
She smacks my chest,"Ky!" she yells, dragging the y. "How many times do we have to have this conversation? Jesus, can't you be nice to him for once."
"Why would I be nice to someone I don't like?"
"Cause it's the right thing to do, ya know be a decent human?"
"Why? So people can walk all over me like they do you?"
She flinches back and steps out of my arms. Shit, why did I just say that?
"Reese I'm sorry," I close my eyes and grab her hand then open them again.
"No you're not," she says in a small voice. Her eyebrows were scrunching up and she was looking down at her shoes."You meant that otherwise you wouldn't have said it. Let's just eat, okay?" She smiled at me but it didn't reach her eyes this time.
By the time we were done eating, Reese was on her third glass of wine and tipsy. She gets up and walks over, no more like stumbling over to the couch. I get up fast and chuckle at her. I steady her, putting my hand on her shoulders and massaging them. Damn I need to get her a massage.
She giggles as we make our way over to the couch and flops down on it. She pulls me down causing me to fall on top of her. I flip us over so that I'm on my back and she's on top of me.
"Hey beautiful," I whisper.
"Hi handsome," she giggles
I smile up at her and brush away her stray hair. She smiles back and tucks her head in the crock of my neck. I rub my hands up and down her back as I enjoy the peace and quiet.
"Hey, Kyler?" She asks in a sleepy voice.
"Yes, baby?" I look down at her.
"I'm sorry I made you mad."
I chuckle softly, "Baby you didn't make me mad I was just annoyed. But, I'm sorry for hurting your feelings."
She sits up and looks down at me. Her hazel eyes staring down into my blue ones. She leans down and brushes her lips against mine.
