CHAPTER SEVENTEEN:
An Anchor a Day Keeps the Propellers Away

▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃▃

AS THE MARTINS (PLUS KATIE) MADE THEIR WAY TO THE SKY DECK, CAREY PULLED KATIE ASIDE.

She wrapped her arm around the teen girl's shoulders as she whispered, "Katie, you didn't tell me Kurt was gonna be here," while tentatively glancing at her ex-husband.

"And I didn't tell anybody you were gonna be here." Katie shrugged. "Everyone's gettin' surprised today!"

Carey gave her look before letting go. As they turned onto the Sky Deck, she tugged both Zack and Cody into a tight hug. "I'm so happy to see my babies!"

Zack scowled at Katie as she strolled alongside the three, watching them with a teasing smile.

"Mom," Zack managed to push her away, "We're men now. We shave."

He gestured wildly to his chin, which nearly made Katie burst out laughing if she hadn't replied in her head, 'What, your one hair?'

"Yep. First Monday of every month," Cody stated proudly, awkwardly shimmying his torso.

Sure, Cody shaved... his peach fuzz... with Katie's razor.

Cody wasn't a big fan of men's razors. They were too heavy for him to hold and give him hand cramps, so once a month Katie slipped an extra razor into a 'dirty' towel, which Cody then proceeded to transfer into his pocket to make sure no one would see.

(The first time they did this, Cody was too nervous that anyone would notice that he hastily shoved the razor into his pocket without looking and ended up cutting the tips of his fingers. They told everyone that his hand slipped while chopping onions, and if anyone questioned why there were three lines instead of one, Katie offered to show them.)

"Oh," Carey groaned as she rubbed her back. Katie couldn't agree more. "My back is killing me." She slipped her bag off her shoulder as she wobbled over to the nearest table. Carey placed it down while saying, "Cheap Charlie's started their own airline. They cut fares by eliminating frivolous amenities ties like seats and bathrooms."

Katie pouted in thought. Out of all the things they could've taken away...

"So, why don't the boys and I," Kurt gestured to the three of them, which made the twins quickly rush to his side, "go have some guy fun while you two," he pointed at us, "go rest up and... paint your nails, or whatever you do."
