KATIE LAZILY SIPPED ON HER SMOOTHIE BY THE ENTRANCE OF THE SHIP, WATCHING CODY PACE BACK AND FORTH WORRIEDLY.
she hadn't asked why, though. sometimes the boy just needed to work things out.
as she leaned against the desk displaying the pamphlets, zack rushed by her and went over to cody.
"oh, hey, is bob here yet?" zack asked cody as he spun him around by the shoulder. "after being stuck here with you i can't wait to have some real guy time."
ugh, that's right. she forgot. the ship was docking in miami during spring break and the twins invited their friends bob and barbara to come visit them.
katie had called max and tapeworm—two of the few people she could stand in back in boston—to see if they could visit as well, but neither of them were free. max was at rehearsal for her big dance recital she had next week (she was the star, duh) and tapeworm — you're never gonna believe it — contracted tapeworm.
and she didn't have any other friends. katie wasn't exactly 'popular' in that department. or any department. (except the police.)
"i'd respond to that insult, but i'm too busy worrying about how i'm gonna break the news to barbara."
so that's why he was pacing.
"right, yeah." zack stuffed his hands in his front pockets as katie pushed herself off the desk. ". . .what news?"
katie stirred her smoothie with the straw as she stood next to zack.
"about bailey and me. that we're practically a couple."
katie's eyebrows knitted together. she slowly sipped on her smoothie as she contemplated the best way to tell him that he was delusional without shattering his fragile heart.
"that's not news!"
katie stopped drinking her smoothie and tipped it towards zack in agreement. "mhm — yeah, that's more of a fantasy?"
cody scoffed lightly. "the point is, bob and barbara are coming to miami to visit us for spring break and i'm going to have to break barbara's heart."
