I SAT IN MY SEAT BEHIND LONDON AND NEXT TO CODY, TEXTING SAM WHILE LISTENING TO WOODY GIVE HIS REPORT.

it didn't exactly follow the guidelines or whatever, but it has been the most entertaining one so far.

"so then the dude punches the shark in the face and surfs this killer tube all the way back to honolulu, where he and his hula babe feast on opakpaka with cheese," woody finished. i quickly put my phone away and we all clapped.

"woody, this is a class on world culture," miss. tutweiller said. "you were supposed to do a report on a city, not some low budget surfer flick."

"hey, 'waves of terror' was very educational. i learned about waves and terror," woody replied.

"well, you're terrifying me," tutweiller mumbled. "sit."

woody sat as miss. tutweiller said, "hawaii is in fact a beautiful state with a rich history and a wealth of natural resources. now, who can name one of the chief exports of hawaii?"

cody and bailey rose their hands as soon as she finished, but miss. t looked over to london, who was filing her nails. "london?"

london hadn't responded and kept on filing, so i kicked one of the legs of her chair.

she turned around to me, not-so-silently whispering, "sam texted you back? when are you guys going on a d —"

"no!" cut her off loudly, trying to ignore the fact that everyone (except for zack) who was staring at us now. "miss. tutweiller asked you a question." i sunk down into my seat, letting my hair cover my red face.

london turned to look at the teacher. "huh?"

tutweiller cleared her throat. "can you name on of the chief exports of hawaii?"

"hawaiians!" london laughed, licking her finger and making a check mark in the air.

"how about coffee?"

"oh, please," london leaned forward. "i would love a cup." she took out money from out of nowhere. i learned to not question that, she kinda just makes it appear? "make it a non-fat decaf with some sprinkles."

"do i look like a waitress?" tutweiller asked before realizing her mistake. "never mind."

she walked back to get something as cody turned around to zack. "ah, a traditional ushanka. you must be doing your report on the icy capital yakutsk of siberia's soccer republic."

"close." zack lifted up his hat to reveal headphones. "i'm listening to the red sox game." he put his finger over his lips. cody and i looked at each other with exasperated looks before looking towards the front again.
