It was 12 o'clock when I was woken up by Macy.

"you cause quite a stir up between the boys last night - what did you do, make out with Jamie?"

"No, but I was forced to make out with Damien. I don't really know why Jamie got so pissed off... but he did, I guess.".

"not fair," Macy crossed her arms. "you get every cute guy. Am I gonna get to be with ANYONE cute?"

"someday," I told her, "you'll find the perfect someone for you."

She smiled as I jumped out of bed. I'd only just realised - Damien was gonna kill me. Oh well, at least I'd be away from this damn place, and maybe even in a place where things went OK for me?

As I saw my uniform on the door I sighed. 'Really?' I thought. 'We have a challenge today? Dammit Damien when I see you I'm gonna drag a stake through you're heart and make it as PAINFUL AS POSSIBLE,'

I slipped into the uniform and followed Cat out to the courtyard, where we were having our next challenge. Suddenly it dawned on me what the challenge was going to be, and just WHO was involved.

Damn Jamie and his annoying smirk. I'd drive a stake through him too.

"ok, girls! This will be the final challenge before the face of... but you see I am not going to tell you what it is that the test is. You cannot know for the purpose of this test. So, you may go."

"what, so I put on this stupid uniform for nothing?" I growled. Damien smirked.

"I think you look rather nice in it."

"Damn you," I growled. "and you." I turned to Jamie. "I'm going to my room." I told them, and stormed off.

My room smelled freshly clean, and... warm? SAFE? I hadn't ever felt safe without...

"Amelie," I turned on my heels, wanting to see him but not sure I'd like what I saw. So I turned slowly, carefully, and gasped when I saw his face.

He was OK.

"Are you mad?" he asked. I smiled at the face in front of me.

John.

John's POV

"Not mad, simply determined." he smiled. "hey, lighten up, A. I'm going to get you out of here, remember?"

"what the hell were you thinking?" she asked, staring at me, not really angry but more worried. I frowned.

"Amelie I told you, it's OK. I'm going to get you back home, safe and sound, where no one will be able to hurt you again."

Amelie shook her head, eyes filling with tears.

"John you just don't understand! Damien will just come back for me - if i run the first place he'll go to look is my home. He'll just take me all over again - and punish me. And YOU, John! I won't let you carry yourself into-"

"you're wrong," I told her. I'd spent hours thinking of what to do. It was all planned. The only thing wrong with it was once it was complete, I wouldn't get to see her ever again. It stung, but it was better than her being trapped here.

"listen. I have a plan to get you out of the castle and onto the streets. It's really simple. Vampire's aren't allowed to take humans from the human world unless it's the night of Vampinesta Potraphena."

"so... what you're saying is... once I get through the portal and into the human world, I'll be safe?"

"Exactly." I smiled. "you'll be perfectly safe, no harm done."

"but won't the portal have some kind of spell on it? Witches do exist, an surely vampires wouldn't be so careless about humans getting into their world?" she asked.

"well, yes," I told her, "but that's where I come in. Any vampire can open or close the portal - so I can easily open it for you."

I was shocked when she lept at me, throwing my arms around me, but I welcomed the hug warmly.

"thank you, John," she whispered. "thank you."

Jamie's POV

I walked towards through the hall, memories of that night in the office flowing into me.

"Jamie, I know you can... if you really try." Damien told me, pleading me with my eyes.

"I know plenty who could help me out with this challenge for the other two, but with Amelie I am a lost cause. You are the only one I can turn to."

"And why should I help you?" I asked, still angry at Damien. I had a pure hatred for him because of what he'd done before... but after all that had happened I was at the tip of not killing him then and there.

My older brother stared at me, surveying what he could say, what he could do.

"because," he murmured. "if any of the girls fail the challenge, the men are allowed to have her."

I clomped down the hall, making my way to the girls room. My first step was simple, and laid out before me. It was simple yet defiantly effective.

I passed the other rooms. Many things were going on in each - I heard my mother and father talking about a stress up north. The chef was busy with his work as usual, but it seemed the maid was bothering him again.

I paused at my sisters door. What I had heard going on in there was something I questioned, and I had to find out more.

"Adam, I can't do this anymore. Mother and father... Damien and Jamie... we have to tell them. The more we wait, the more annoyed they will be when they find out."

I barged in, turned to my sister with her long golden locks and blue eyes, pale skin and terrified look, and then to the man sitting next to her. He had brown hair, waving and shaping around his face. Chocolate brown eyes. Sinister face. I'd know him anywhere.

"Adam, so NOT lovely to see you again," I sharply spat at him. What was my arch enemy, tormenter of my lover and killer of my youngest sister, doing in my sisters room?

"Jamie..." Catherine murmured, "Jamie, I didn't want you to find out this way but... Adam is my mate."
