Amelie's POV

When I woke Damien was sat by my bed, staring at me worriedly. As soon as he saw I was awake his eyes went back to normal, and I sat up.

"Damien," I took his hand in mine. "I know now that I am to be your Queen. But... for me to accept that... why won't you open up to me? You won't show me how you really feel inside."

Damien held out his hand to me. "come with me, I will show you."

I took his hand, unsure. So much had happened between us, I wasn't even sure I could trust him anymore. He helped me up and led me along hallway after hallway, until we finally reached the gardens.

Damien shut his eyes, and I stood awkwardly. He wasn't saying anything. Did he expect me to ask again?

Then, suddenly, the water rose from the pond, and my hand tightened in his as I yelped in surprise.

The water formed a scene. I tried to concentrate on the video it was playing, instead of the fact that the water was MOVING.

The first scene was of a little boy. He was learning from a book, as was the boy next to him, a little younger, and the tiny girl on the other side of them.

A man walked over to the middle boy, who I suddenly realised was Damien, and clapped his hands. "well done, Damien! Excellent work!"

I yelped again. Did the water just TALK? This was way too creepy. How was this all possible?

Damien smiled fondly. "Thank you father!"

The king walked around to Jamie. "excellent work as always, my boy."

Jamie nodded as the king went off the screen.

"I got everything I wanted as a child," Damien told me, as both boys took on concentrated faces and kept doing whatever it was they were doing.

"Jamie never got anything, even though he was the better child. Did you notice how his response wasn't so enthusiastic?"

He still hadn't opened his eyes, so instead of nodding I said "yes".

The picture turned, to a picture of me and Damien playing in the pond. I blushed as he chased me round and caught me, pulling me to his chest.

"I got you, too, even though Jamie wanted you so much." he sighed as it showed us kissing and I blushed even harder. Was he imagining this in his head?

"I think that's why he wanted to be a hybrid. I think that's why he left."

Damien opened his eyes and the water splashed back down into the pond, ordinary just like before.

"I'M why he left, Amelie. It's my fault, and I feel terrible all over. THAT'S how I really feel. And what I feel for you is unimaginable, Amelie. But you don't actually like me."

I turned to him. "but I do, Damien. As much as I push it away, you know I do, but it keeps coming back. And I can't push it away much longer, Damien. I CAN'T."

I pushed myself in, forcing him to hold me, and I crashed my lips against his. I opened up my mouth to allow his tongue access, but he didn't take it. Instead, he just hugged me.

"Let's take it slowly, shall we?" he asked me, and I nodded. He sighed. "I do want you, Amelie. I do. But I'm sick of forcing you - you need time to make sure it's what you really want."

I nodded. "OK, Damien."

And with that, he pulled out of the hug and left me. I stood in the gardens alone, processing what I'd just seen, done.
