*Mammon's POV*

I couldn't keep myself from fiddling and walking in circles in a continuous manner outside Y/N's hospital room. Lucifer and Diavolo were the ones who quickly sent her to the emergency room so that their best doctors would tend to her. Here I was, in complete daze after witnessing her cough up too much blood, almost coughing up her guts when it sounded real chesty. I froze at the moment I looked at her helpless state, begging Solomon to save her from being unconscious. But even before falling flat in his arms, she still managed to call out my name just to smile at me bittersweetly. Indeed, I felt physical pain lunging through my very chest after seeing her smile like that, keeping her tears from falling out. I, to, know how much she tried to hide her illness from me that it pains her twice than the pain I was feeling right now.

Speaking of that shady human, he suddenly revealed to us that he's Y/N's older brother. If that's the case, he's got a lot of explaining to do because seemingly, Y/N, too, had no idea that Solomon's her brother. After all, she considers him as her best friend.

Solomon, Asmo, and Simeon were the ones left with me outside the hospital ward. The ongoing silence was deafening enough to emphasize the uneasiness in the atmosphere. Asmo, who was now agitated with the sleepless night looking after her bestie that's currently bedridden, was blankly staring but decided to break the silence.

"You said that you are Y/N's brother. Is that the reason why you've been tagging along with her ever since the student exchange program began?" He certainly read my mind as he said this, pulling out all the words stuck in my throat.

Solomon took his time to regain his composure that I quite understand the weight being added on his back; he is her brother after all. Then finally, he gathered the courage to speak, his voice hoarse, "She doesn't know that I am her brother. Surely, she wouldn't believe it when I'm over hundreds of years older than her."

Only his voice filled the quiet hallways, and the rest of us just sat and stood listening carefully to every detail he would tell us.

"Our mother's a sorceress too. I was the one who followed her footsteps. Right on my birthday, we found out that she's pregnant with another mortal who left her days after. It was all good not until the day of Y/N's birth that took away my mother's life. She was already struggling with lung cancer while giving birth. Y/N came out alright but had the signs of a weak immune system."

"Are you mad at her for taking away your mom from you?" Simeon questioned him worried. And from his tone, he's trying to be cautious choosing his words. "And I'm sorry for your loss."

"Yes, at first it angered me, especially that my mom is all I have. I was so furious that I gave her away to the orphanage. But part of me felt remorse because she's just an innocent child. And I knew that it was best for her to live mortal and die mortal. I was relieved knowing that she was taken care of and loved in that orphanage." Solomon sighed in desolation, pausing as he held his head with one of his hands, eyes fixated on the ceiling. I was silent all this time after realizing that I got jealous over nothing. I got jealous of her brother and called her hurtful words without even giving her a chance to explain.

Then he continued, "The same relief that took over my conscience was gone after I decided to pay her a visit. I found out that she was being tormented by her foster family and constantly got beaten up by her brothers. I expected for the worse to happen, we never know what more was done to her. Guilt rose inside of me and I wished I didn't abandon her."

He, then looked at me with a hint of despair in his eyes, though he smiled to show his gratefulness towards me, "I know how angry you are to me and somehow you are right. She deserves a person like you more than me. You are the only one who stayed by her side despite the fact that she hadn't told you about her traumatic life in her realm."
