In a public high school in a small village, a four-year waste of time. One good teacher, and a lot of zombies, all ready to repeat the same day over and over again.

The majority of classes have nothing to do with the skills you need in the real world. Why do you need to take a physics class?

Why do you need to know about... Well, I was going to tell you about some useless equation but I've already forgotten it because; guess what? I never used it outside of the classroom.

You know what would be really useful? Knowing how to go through a job interview. How do you do taxes? How do I write a check? What are checks even? How do you manage a bank account? What should you do in medical emergencies and what classifies as a medical emergency?

High school literally teaches you everything you don't need to know. Is this just a metaphor for life being meaningless? You'll never know because you're busy trying to wrap your head around physics when you've always been in a remedial math class.

But the biggest lie that a high school can tell you, is that bullying will not be tolerated.

And there is nothing worse than starting school in the middle of the semester, in the third year.

"Hayden!" His father bellowed. "There you are, son."

"Do I really have to wear this?" He asked.

"Yes." The stocky man stated. "Now, Henderson is waiting by the car. I have asked him to drop you off around the corner. Don't be late. And remember-"

"Not a word to anyone." Hayden sighed. "Got it."

"Hey, where do you think you're going?" A beefy teenage boy smirked at his girlfriend — Alyssa — pulling her back as she tried to exit his car.

"We're gonna be late to class." She declared.

"So, we'll be late." He leaned in to plant a kiss on her lips but she turned away, causing him to catch her cheek.

He let out a growl before grasping a fistful of her hair and turning her back to him.

She grabbed his hand and twisted it before slamming his face into the steering wheel.

"AH!" He shrieked.

Alyssa flew out of the car door, only to be halted by the principal.

"My office. Both of you." He scowled.

As the scrawny teenage boy made his way through the maze that was Berkley High, he took in every last detail. Every poster, every classroom, every foul smell. He finally found his way to the principal's office.

"I wasn't the attacker, Mr. Hamish. I was the attacked!" Alyssa defended.

"That's why Mr. Ericsson is sat here with a black eye and a broken nose and you stand before me, without a scratch."

"It was self-defense!"

"I don't know what happened." Eric Ericsson lied as he held a cloth over his bleeding nose. "One minute we were talking and the next she goes nuts and attacked me."

"That's not what happened and you know it!" Alyssa snapped.

"Miss Hunter, I'm gonna have to ask you to calm down." The principal explained. "You have detention for the next three days and I will be having a word with your father."

"No, you can't tell my father. Please."Alyssa begged.

"You should be thankful that you aren't being suspended, young lady."

Eric forced back a chuckle, earning a glare from Alyssa.

Now, Hayden wasn't the most social teen, but he was very intuitive and pretty good at reading people.

He burst into the room.

"She's telling the truth, sir!" He announced, not entirely certain it was true.

"Who the hell are you?!" Eric scowled.

"Mr. Harris?!" The principal shrieked.

"He initiated it. She was just defending herself." He explained.

"And you witnessed this?" The principal wondered. Hayden gazed at the blonde who was fighting to keep calm. Then at Eric who was glaring at the young man.

"Yes." He fibbed. "She's innocent."

"I'm very sorry, Miss Hunter." He apologized. "And as for you, Mr. Ericsson. Detention." He led the two other teens out of the office. "I'm very sorry Mr. Harris. I'm sure this isn't what you envisioned for your first day."

"That's not a problem, sir." He assured.

"Here is your schedule. Unfortunately, I have Mr. Ericsson to deal with right now. But I will come and find you later today and we can have a chat." The principal explained. "Miss Hunter, could you see Mr. Harris to class." He handed the pair a late slip and sent them on their way.

"Why did you do it?" Alyssa wondered.

"What? Help you?" Hayden thought.

"Lie for me." She corrected. "I know you didn't see anything."

"Okay, you caught me." He stated. "I overheard and wanted to help."

"Eric is gonna make you pay big time for that," Alyssa warned.

"Yeah, I'm not looking forward to that." He chuckled nervously.

"Well, thank you." Alyssa smiled. "I really owe you one."

"Don't mention it."

"So, Mr. Harris..." She smirked.

"Miss Hunter..." He replied. They both chuckled.

"Ally." She introduced.

"Hayden."

They both halted at the classroom door.

"Don't be so nervous." Ally suggested as she noticed the panicked look on his face.

"Confession. I've never been to school before." He admitted.

"That much was obvious." She chuckled. "Just act like you belong. You shouldn't have to worry until gym." She teased.

"Thanks." He chuckled, rolling his eyes.

Ally opened the door to the classroom and handed the teacher her late slip.

"No problem, Ally. Take a seat." Her teacher — Ms. Walker — said.

Hayden took a deep breath before following suit.

"You must be Mr. Harris."

"Hayden." He corrected.

"Well, it's lovely to meet you. Please take a seat over here." She gestured to the empty seat beside Alyssa.
