What Danger Lies Ahead

A few days passed and Alyssa finally had her feeding tube removed. Heather had taken her to the hospital while Hayden and Andy spent the morning making a mountain of pancakes for her when she returned.

It's safe to say that she devoured the lot. Of course, she would probably come to regret it later.

"Somebody was hungry." Heather teased. Ally just stuck her tongue out playfully, too satisfied to care. Hiccup snuck up behind the blonde and snaked his arms around her waist, tracing gentle circles over her stomach.

"How are you feeling this morning?" He checked.

"Good, actually." She thought. "Better than I have in a while."

"Well, in that case..." Hiccup spun her towards him. "I have a surprise for you..."

"I think you've given me enough surprises, don't you?" She glared at him.

"This is a good surprise." Hiccup explained. "And it was Andy's idea."

"It's not another science bomb is it?" She smirked knowingly at her brother.

"Nope. It's a date." He told her.

"Huh?"

"It's not a date." Hiccup corrected. "It's archery. I checked with the doctor and they said it's perfectly safe as long as you take it easy and stay hydrated."

"What about Andy?" She wondered.

"He's gonna spend the day with me and Dex," Heather explained.

"Okay, but please don't let Dexter cook anything. I'd like my brother back in one piece." Ally joked.

"Wow, I haven't been here in forever." Ally awed as she entered the range, shortly followed by Hiccup and their guards.

"Well, I'll be..." The owner said as he approached the young teens. "If it isn't Lyssa the Lionheart."

"Uncle Jesse!" She cheered.

"He's your Uncle?" Hayden thought.

"Hiccup, the place is called Uncle Jesse's. He's everyone's uncle." Ally chuckled as she hugged the older man.

"Wow, you sure grew." Jesse noticed. "What has it been, four... five years?"

"Six." She corrected.

"Well, I'm glad to see you back here again." He mentioned before excusing himself.

"Well then, Lyssa the Lionheart. Let's see these skills of yours." Hiccup chuckled picking a wooden bow from the pile.

"Okay, archery tip number one." Ally took the bow from him and put it back. "Pick the right size. Here..." She handed Hiccup a slightly larger bow. 24-inch draw length should be about right. And a 22-inch for me."

"Wow, okay. You really know your stuff."

They made their way to their stations and Hayden watched as Alyssa drew back her first arrow, taking her time to line up the shot perfectly before releasing it.

"Bullseye!" She called, feeling proud of herself.

"Woah." Hiccup gazed in awe. He in turn attempted to take a shot, struggling to keep the arrow in the right place. Ally just chuckled at his attempt.

"Hiccup, you're gonna take somebody's eye out." She came up behind him, grabbing his hips and twisting him. "You wanna stand sideways." She led his arm up before halting. She rolled her eyes before removing the bow from his hand and placing it in the other. "You're left-handed, Muttonhead." She teased. She raised his bow-wielding arm to the side after spinning him around. She gently positioned the arrow in place. Hiccup grasped the string, pulling back with all his might. Alyssa lifted his opposing elbow. "You need to keep this arm up and bring the string a little closer to you." She explained. "Good. Now, you wanna close your right eye. It gives you a better view and makes it easier to aim. But, remember you always want to aim a little higher than where you're aiming for. And you need to take into account the winds too, but it's not too windy today, so you should be fine."

Hiccup focused intently for a moment before releasing the string. He didn't get the very center like Ally had but he was proud that he managed to hit the target.

"See, you've got it!" Ally chuckled. She planted a quick kiss on his cheek before heading back to her station. "Good job, Babe."

"Thanks for today, Hiccup." Ally sighed happily as they walked down the street, hand in hand. "It was nice to have some time, just the two of us. Without the stress."

"Glad to hear it." Hiccup noted. "Anything to see that smile on your face." He smirked as she playfully elbowed him in the ribs, giggling adorably.

Unfortunately, it was short-lived as they were swarmed by a crowd of people. Luckily their guards — Mattias and Faith — were no slackers and with Mattias ahead of them and Faith behind them, they were safe from anyone trying to get too close, though the constant flashes of phones and cameras were starting to bother Ally more than she'd like to admit.

"Hey, you okay?" Hayden whispered. Ally nodded lightly, but Hiccup saw straight through her. She winced as the blinding lights continued flashing in her eyes. He wriggled his hand out of hers and draped his arm over her shoulder using his hand to cover her face, hoping to prevent her from the flashing lights, which were likely making her dizzy, as she leaned into him, wrapping her arm around his waist.

He soon got her home and decided that she should spend some time with her brother.

After an afternoon of non-stop cartoons and games, there was a knock at the door. Ally couldn't help but wonder who it was, Heather and Hiccup both had other plans and nobody else ever came over. She checked through the peephole to see;

"Dad?!" She gasped at a whisper. Perfect, the one time she wished she had the royal guard around. She spun around and grasped her brother's hand, taking him into her room. She took out her phone and managed to text Heather '911' before she heard the door open. "Shh." She warned her brother.

"He came back?" Andy thought.

"Yeah, but what for?" Ally wondered. She glanced down at her phone to read a text from Heather. 'On my way.'

"I know you're in here!" She heard her father call through the penthouse. Alyssa took a deep breath, suddenly started feeling warm and shaky. Oh, perfect.

"Okay, Andy. I need you to listen to me. Take my phone. I'm gonna distract him, I need you to go downstairs and wait for Heather in the lobby, okay?" Ally ordered.

"What about you?" Andy worried, knowing that Alyssa and her father didn't get along. At all. And it often got out of hand rather quickly.

"I'll be fine." She whispered. "I'll meet you at Heather's. Just take Stormfly and get yourself out of here, okay? Then I need you to call Hiccup. Can you do that for me?" The young boy nodded nervously. "Good Boy." She planted and gentle kiss on his forehead.

"Be careful." He cried as she turned to leave.
