Chapter 12
""Huff hah ha~""
Heavy breathing and rushed footsteps erupted in the nearby hallways.
...: ""Ha haha, you're fast. You know this is breaking the rules. Aren't we not supposed to run in the hallways? Haha hah! Ah, you're so quiet! At least the stick up your ass isn't as far up as James'!""
The pursuer finally spoke up.
""I don't know why you're doing this but please stop!""
...: ""Aw, ok!""
The pursued then halted their feet on the spot, creating a god awful squeaking sound against the floor. The pursuer had not expected this and although they tried to slow down, afraid of making a mark on the floor; fell flat onto the other person.
Looking down, the pursuer finally got a good look at the other's appearance. A tall but scrawny boy laid underneath him, laughing in hysterics. He had piercings covering every inch of his ears, his skin was a pale lifeless colour. His eyes were dark blue standing out against his overgrown curly black hair.
The person below finally realised the pair of eyes staring at him.
...: ""Hmm, what's up? Oh, am I so hot you can't take your eyes off me? Haha! Ahhh, you're not so bad yourself. You've got too much hair gel on though.""
A light smack to the face was all he received as a response.
The person above then lifted himself off the other. He looked around, seeing multiple eyes staring at them. They'd been attracted by the loud screech made by the pursued's shoes halting.
Footsteps rushed over quickly. A girl with neatly done hair came out of the crowd, speed-walking over to the cause of this ruckus. A shiny name tag adorned her chest. "Student Council President - James B."
""Lee, I'll be lenient with you today but don't you dare think about running in these halls again otherwise I will report you to the supervisor.""
Lee nodded silently in response. James then turned to the boy still laying on the floor. The crowd slowly dispersed, not interested in the aftermath.
""I'm surprised you haven't tried to run away yet.""
The boy on the floor laughed, mocking.
...: ""Huh, me, run away? Never! I was caught fair and square. Plus I had fun so I might as well reward you now.""
James sighed, turning to Lee again.
""Head to the library and tell whoever's on bookshelf duty that a few overdue books have been sent in from parents. They'll probably need some help organising them so could you help out with that, also?""
Lee nodded before walking in the direction of the library.
...: ""Can you help me up? I think I sprained my ankle when we fell.""
James sighed.
""Well that'll teach you not to run in the halls, just because you're-. Nevermind, it doesn't give you the excuse to run around doing whatever. I will be reporting this to the supervisor whether you like it or not.""
She leaned down and grabbed the boy's arms, pulling him up. They walked to the nurse's office to get some ice for his ankle, heading to the student council room straight after.
He sat on a colourful couch in the corner of the room, holding the ice pack to his ankle. James had gone to the supervisor's office to report. The only other person in the room was an afterschool cleaner.
The entryway's door opened silently, obviously it had been oiled well. Both the boy and the cleaner only realised someone had come in once the door shut, making a clicking sound.
They turned their heads to see Lee. He was holding a how-to book on climbing the social hierarchy.
...: 'Weird'
Lee walked over to a bag hung up on a hook, unzipping it and putting the book inside. He then pulled the book from the hook, putting it on his back, getting ready to go home. He however then noticed the boy in the corner of his eye, walking over. He crouched down on the floor next to the couch, looking at the boy's ankle.
""Sorry, did I do this? I didn't mean to injure you, although next time you shouldn't run in the halls.""
The boy stared down at Lee, interest sparking in his eyes.
...: ""No, I did this myself when I tried to stop. Shouldn't you be apologising for something else?""
Lee questioned.
""Huh, did I do something else?""
The injured then pointed to his cheek, pouting.
...: ""It really stung when you hit me. I was even complimenting you!""
Lee ignored what he just said, looking towards his swollen ankle with a woeful smile. A hand suddenly took him off guard. It wasn't rough but it wasn't gentle either, messing up his hair.
""You-!""
...: ""You look better with your hair scruffed up.""
Their back and forth banter was disrupted by the door shutting.
""Oh my! So you guys are friends? Well then this makes this easier.""
""Huh?""
James didn't walk up to them, instead walking over to her backpack getting ready to leave.
""The supervisor has been very kind to you Jay, however he's told me that he can't have you disrupting others and your own learning anymore so you'll be monitored from now on. Luckily, we didn't have much trouble finding someone to do that, since you and Lee are in the same grade and have surprisingly similar class schedules. Lee, I trust you'll keep him in check.""
James then swung her bag onto her back and walked out of the room, not wanting to explain anymore.
""Excuse me, what!?""
AUTHOR'S COMMENTS:
<Woohoo, we're onto chapter 12 already! Time flies! I, at first thought that this whole story would only fit into a few chapters but I guess I underestimated my timeline draft. We're pretty much a quarter of the way through the story now, hurray!>
James: ""Do I finally get a more prominent role!""
""Ehh~ SuRe!""
