Santa and Shins

Chapter 11

The wind blew softly, underpaid convenience store workers were hanging up fallen Christmas lights. A choir of children gathered around the oversized Christmas tree in the center of the town to sit on an overweight man's lap and tell him what they wanted as presents.

Jay taunted.

""Hey Lee, you should be able to fit on his lap, right? How bout'cha tell Santa what ya want this year?""

Hearing this Cher laughed somewhat fakely, falling onto Caddie's upper arm for support from the slippery ground. Lee turned his head to look at the fat man in red, he then immediately turned back around and slammed his elbow into Jay's ribs. Lee then replied with a chuckle.

""I'm more interested to see if you'd fit on his lap.""

Jay held his side in pain, looking down at the mouse, confused as to why he'd hit him so hard over a joke.

""That hurt.... I think we should all go over to Santa!""

With that Jay grabbed Lee's shoulder, pulling him towards the man in red. Cher now seemed to be laughing genuinely, still holding onto Caddie as they followed behind the two boys.

Lee begged.

""Hey! What about the movie? Let's not do this, please!""

Jay laughed.

""Too late we're in line now, look there's people lined up behind us. Plus the movie can wait, we have all day don't we?""

Lee squirmed trying to escape.

""T-this is for kids anyway, look we aren't being very courteous to the people lining up behind us!""

Cher was cracking up behind them, pulling on Caddie's arm trying to stay standing. She managed to get out a few words.

""Serves you right! Haha-ah!""

Caddie was currently zoning out.

'It's only been a week since I've met Cher. Yet I'm already being invited to hangout with her friend group. Sure we've been hanging out together most of this week anyway so inviting me might not be so weird.... but still I-.'

Caddie turned her head to look at Cher, she'd at some point gone completely silent. Cher was still holding onto her arm, although you couldn't call her grip as desperate as before. Their eyes locked, Cher had been looking towards Caddie for who knows how long. She pulled back softly, releasing Caddie's arm.

""What were you thinking about? You looked like you were troubled?""

Caddie shook her head with a smile.

Their bliss was then interrupted by the sound of laughing. Jay had his phone out and was either taking a video or a picture. Lee was sitting on the Santa's lap looking defeated.

The Santa spoke.

 What would you like for Christmas, little boy?

It was hard to tell if this Santa was just playing along with him or couldn't tell that the person sitting on his lap was an actual sixteen year old. Cher immediately burst into another one of her laughing fits.

Jay urged.

""You heard him, what do you want?""

Lee  frowned.

""I want to be shorter.""

""...""

Once the Santa heard Lee's voice he seemed to have realised the person sitting on his lap was a lot older than he thought.

 ""W-why? Young man, you're already quite small. Why do you want to be smaller?""

Lee turned to Jay, his gaze fell low.

""His shins look really nice. Though, I thought they might look better if I could knee them.""

""...""

The Santa uncomfortably pushed Lee off himself.

""Hmmk, who's next?""

Everyone had gone pretty silent after that, except for Cher who seemed completely unfazed by what Lee had said. They continued on their walk to the cinema, a few peculiar stares were given to them as they left.

Caddie couldn't help but be confused.

'Are they friends or not? The first time I saw them together Jay had come into the student council room and immediately started fighting with him. The second time was at the cafe but they seemed pretty chill then.'

AUTHOR'S COMMENTS:

<I've changed up how I write internal and external dialogue so that it'll be easier to understand who's speaking.

These last few chapters have been pretty short. Next chapter we're gonna go back in time a bit though so it should be longer. Yup, the first half of this arc is gonna be focused on Lee and Jay! Don't worry though, Cher and Caddie will show up at the end as well as some new characters along the way!>

Caddie - "Why are you so violent?" 

Lee - ""Good question!"" (o゜▽゜)o☆

Caddie - "Aren't you gonna answer it?" 

Lee - ""No.""（。＾▽＾）
