1 Year Later

"Yeah I know. I'll make sure to take everyone over to see you soon. See you soon Mom." I hung up the phone and went in to the room that had my 2 month old daughter in it. I snuck in and whispered to Lillie, "Hey- how's little Stella doing?" Lillie looked up from where she was sitting, "Everything is good. She's a good kid, just like Elio, I think they get that from you heheh." I nodded. I then snuck out of the room and pulled my phone out. It was blowing up and I couldn't figure out why so I decided to check. Apparently Cynthia retired, she lost to Calem last world championship and since then she seemed to lose interest. It seems like a young trainer named Dawn is going to take her place soon. I thought briefly about my own situation. I loved spending time with my family more than anything else in the world, and training constantly and defending my title...it took a lot of that time away from me. I might be missing a lot of key moments in Elio and Stella's lives if I keep doing this. Plus I have the best wife in the world, I'd like to spend much more time with her too.

Lillie walked out of the room and then peered at me. She always knew when I was thinking about something important. "What's wrong Sun?" I shook my head "Nothing really, I'm just thinking about the future..." She frowned, "Usually when I think about the future I smile and laugh, this is the life I always wanted to have...you said you feel the same so why are you so troubled?" I looked at her directly "I do feel the same, and the future is going to be wonderful I just- I think it might be time for me to step down as Champion." She recoiled and then asked "Wh- Why would you do that? You love doing it don't you?" I nodded, "I do, but not as much as I love spending time with you and the kids. Being the best in the world takes a lot of time and effort. Time and effort I'd rather spend on my family." Lillie started to pace "That's really sweet Sun...but I don't want you to give up your dreams for me." I shook my head, "I want to. Cynthia retired...As of now from when I started, Me, Leon, and Iris are the only champions standing now. I think it's time to let the new generation take over." Lillie hugged me "If that's what you want Sun, I'd love that. Don't you think you should at least give the fans one last run?" I thought for a moment and then replied, "Probably yeah. The tournament is in Hoenn and then the final is in Lumiose City. I think it would be nice to give any fans there a chance to see me." I thought about many things that night. Was I retiring too early? Am I already too far behind the new battlers? Will this tarnish my legacy? Would I even be considered the Greatest of all time? These thoughts flooded my mind, but falling asleep with Lillie in my arms...I'll be ok.

I was awakened the next morning by Lillie tossing and turning. I patted her shoulder a few times and she quickly opened her eyes widely. She shuddered and began to tear up. I wrapped her in a tight hug, "What's wrong, are you alright?" She nodded in my shoulder and replied in a muffled tone, "Bad nightmare..." I rubbed her back, "Hey, it's ok,. You need to talk about it?" She broke from the hug and smiled, "No... Actually just being awake and with you makes me feel better... Thank you Sun." I smiled, "Thank you. I'm gonna go check on Stella alright, if you need me just call for me." I then exited the room and went to see Stella in her room as Lillie fell back asleep. She was beautiful, she had her mother's face but she had my hair. It was interesting how that worked out with Elio's hair being blonde while Stella's was my color. Either way I was grateful for each of them. I figured it would be nice of me to make breakfast so I got busy doing that. I heard my door open and in walked Kukui. Still never bothered to knock. "Hey Kukui what's up?" He shrugged "Not much, Lei is a ball of energy so I just decided to take a second to come out and see you and Lillie for a bit. I laughed, "Sounds good to me, Lillie's still asleep right now but when she wakes up I'm sure she'll be glad to see ya." I frowned, I realized that Kukui didn't know what I had been thinking about. Kukui had always been like a coach of sorts to me throughout my journey. He and Lillie inspired me to be the best....I should probably tell him what's on my mind. "Something wrong Sun?" Kukui asked. I raised my head towards him, "To tell you the truth Kukui yeah. I've got a wonderful family...and I feel like being a world class trainer takes too much time of mine away from them." Kukui frowned as well and then met my gaze, "I- I see. So what are you going to do?" I sighed before replying, "I think...after this next World Championship....I'll probably retire." Kukui sat down, "....yeah that probably is the right thing for you...I couldn't ask anything more of you you know. You went out and made both of our dreams realities. I'm grateful you did it for me. That being said if you want to work with me for this last ride, let me know." "I will. Thanks Kukui." Kukui then got up and left presumably to go help Burnet.

Lillie walked down the stairs about 5 minutes later "...Morning love...did I miss Kukui?" I nodded, "Yeah. It's alright though, I told him my plans and he seemed alright with them." Lillie nodded and then looked and saw the breakfast I had made, "Sun! That's was really sweet of you, thank you!" I laughed, "This is why I want to retire, so I can keep helping you out." Lillie sat down and began to eat, I did the same. I then got up and gave Elio his breakfast, then went in to Stella's room. I held Stella in my arms while feeding her her formula. I felt very proud of how far Lillie and I had come...Stella and Elio are just the best. Lillie and I never fight either, we just work things out if we ever get in to any kind of problem. I really couldn't ask for anything better. I got up and headed out to the beach where I did my training. "Alright guys come on out!" Out came Incineroar, Raichu, Whimsicott, Ninetails, Lycanroc, and Metagross. Ninetails looked around for Elio...he wasn't there, but Elio was always his favorite playmate. "Just normal stuff today. Bracket still isnt set so there's no strategy to work on. Let's do it!" With that we began our jogging.

Author's Note
So yeah there is gonna be another time skip after this one that will get to the next World Championship. This was a sort of nice in-between chapter to show Sun's thought process in his decision to retire, as well as let you guys get to know the kids a bit better. Thanks for reading!
