The next day, I woke up with Lillie still in my arms and sighed. It made me feel ready to win and win big. I woke her up softly and we got up and got ready to go to the stadium. Elio was already up as well, he was very excited to watch today. We went and sat in the locker room as custom. I sat there just talking to my family. I felt confident in my abilities now. I may not be the sharpest trainer anymore, but I didn't become a world champion because of my reaction time. I was here because of my motivation and my team. they've never let me down and they won't now. I heard a roar like no other as Brendan made his walk to the field. I was up next. This may be the last time I ever make this walk. I'll make the most of it. The sound of "Last Breath"
filled the Lumiose Arena and the crowd made noise like I had never heard before. I walked slowly, each step moving me closer to the possibility of my legacy being set in stone. It was do or die. I've waited my whole life to be here, and I'm not going to let it go now.
I took my spot in the trainer's box after making my usual rounds to the crowd and then my family. It was time. "LET THE FINALS..." The hand came down, time to go, "BEGIN!" "Raichu!" "Mightyena!" My beloved Raichu was met by Brendan's Mightyena. I have nothing but complete faith in Raichu to win here. And right I was. The Mightyena came forward aggressively but Raichu was much too fast to catch. 1-0. I raised my fist to the cheering crowd. Next up was Lycanroc vs Walrein. That one didn't go my way. 1-1. Then Whimsicott vs Gardevoir. A tough match, Gardevoir was on its last legs but Whimsicott fell. 1-2. After that I sent out Metagross, who was met by Swellow. I took a rather demoralizing loss there, Brendan just seemed one step ahead. The halfway score was 1-3 in his favor. I looked over to Lillie and Elio. Elio looked worried but Lillie flashed me a comforting smile. She had faith still. and as long as she did, I couldn't let her down. I then sent out Raichu who met the Gardevoir, it was weakend so we got it easily, 2-3. Next came Ninetails up against Absol. Ninetails put on an absolute masterclass against it. The score was even at 3. Raichu came up against the Mega Sceptile next, unfortunately for me it was just too much for the battle weary Raichu. 3-4. I sent Incineroar next who met the Swellow, I wasn't confident going in but he caught it with a flush flamethrower as it was moving in and got it done well. 4-4. Next came Walrein vs Ninetails. Ninetails battled very cleanly, unfortunately for him all that powerhouse Walrein needed was one clean hit. Ninetails froze it with an ice beam but then got drilled by a hydro Pump. 4-5. That's ok though I've got Incineroar, he can do this. I brought the Fire type Z-crystal as well. Incineroar quickly melted the frozen Walrein to even the score at 5-5. This was it, Mega Sceptile vs Incineroar to determine the world champion. Incineroar looked back to me and I nodded confidently. He smirked and then met the Sceptile in the middle of the field. They trades blows before I raised my wrist to look like I was going to call a Z-move, this made Brendan flinch and quickly call a dodge, I called Darkest Lariat which hit it hard and then made my move. Inferno Overdrive. Incineroar did his best and connected. That was it. 6-5. Three in a row. I shouted as loud as I ever had in my life as the crowd noise deafened me. Brendan had already left or else I would have shaken his hand or something. The crowd rushed the field and the field was packed to the brim. I could barely move with how packed it was. I scanned the crowd and saw Lillie excitedly cutting through with Elio close behind her. I pulled them in to a hug. Tears were streaming down my face, everything I had worked so hard for was achieved. I retired on top. Undefeated. Undisputed. I smiled and just held on to my family, Lillie with one arm and Elio with the other as we made our way to the stage that was set for my post match interview.
I stood there with the microphone still on it's stand. I began to speak. "Lumiose City! You just witnessed history! I- I'm just so happy to be here right now." The crowd around me once again started to cheer as I smiled, tears still forming at my eyes. I started to laugh and then began to speak again, "As many of you may know, I intend on this match being my last, not a day will go by where I don't miss moments like this, but with my beautiful wife Lillie and my wonderful kids, Elio here and Stella at home, I'll be ok. That's why I'm doing this. You all know how much I love this sport...and a part of my heart will always be left with it...but I love my family more, they mean more to me than anything else ever could." The crowd clapped in response, "So with all that being said, I think Alola will be just as good on this stage after I'm done. I'm super thankful for everyone and everything that got me here. With that said, I hope you all have a safe trip home and a good night. It's been fun." The crowd roared as they began to disperse. I walked back to the locker room and let Elio hold the trophy. He was infatuated with it. I sat on a bench next to Lillie and let Ninetails come out to celebrate with Elio.
I sat there for a long time just holding my head in my hands. I was completely overwhelmed. My career had gone by so fast...it was so much fun while it lasted. Lillie sat by me just running her hand along my back in a comforting way. "You did great Sun. I'm so happy for you." I took a deep breath and sighed "Thanks. It means the world to me. I can't wait to spend more time with you and the kids." She giggled and continued what she was doing. I watched Elio happily playing with Ninetails as it yipped happily and chased him. I could get used to this.
We got home and I began my new life with my family. This is the end of the first half of the story
Author's note
The second part of this story may well be one of the most enjoyable things I've ever written, it was really cool to put the idea in to action. The first half is almost more of a set up to this than anything, that being said I liked taking some time to focus on the family aspect of this story for a bit, even though there's even more of it to come. Hope you guys stay tuned!
