"Happy Birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear-" my parents started as I walked down the stairs into the living room, that they had decorated to the brim for my birthday and before they could continue I blushed "Guys, w-we talked about this." Rosetta and Oreste stood there, my dad holding a big blue cake decorated with little frogs and teddies on top made from fondant and my mom had two sparklers in her hands, while they were both wearing party hats on their heads, ready to celebrate me today, but this year, it should be a bit different.

"I'm sorry honey, but I will not let this pack take the eighteenth birthday of my little angel away from me!" Rosetta said, putting out the sparklers and I chuckled, still a little embarrassed by this much attention.  I still wasn't used to it and didn't know how to handle it. "They aren't taking it away, it is only delayed" I said quietly, as my dad also put down the cake as well. So last week we kind of had a big attack planned, because our luna was in trouble and now he was back and safe, but the whole pack needed a few days to calm down, especially Riley and Asher. So they said they would throw me a big birthday party in three days and that was very fine, I didn't care, so I originally planned on just pushing back my whole birthday, but my parents did not have any of that.

"I don't care, I'm still not on board. Happy birthday honey" she smiled, kissing my cheek and I chuckled, letting her do so, since she could be a bit stubborn. "Thank you Rosetta" I said and now Oreste hugged me tightly, before kissing my forehead. "I am so proud of you Lynton! Look at you being a real man now! How does it feel to be eighteen years old?" he asked and I never really understood that question. I knew it was kind of meant as a joke and people often said it but...what exactly did it mean? They were eighteen once, they knew that it didn't feel much different, especially since I had already taken over as an omega a few weeks ago. Nothing had changed.

"Fine" I smiled and my dad chuckled, before he picked up the cake again, holding it in front of my face with the candles, as he said "Make a wish!" I looked at the burning candles in front of me, that were so colorful and I thought of all the things I could wish for right now. For me to get better, mentally, so my parents didn't have to worry anymore, for my pack to stay strong, for me to do a good job, to never find a mate and inconvenience them, but I already knew what I had wished for from the bottom of my heart: To not inconvenience anybody. I closed my eyes and blew the candles out.

But when I opened my eyes, the candles were still burning. And Oreste was laughing. "Ahaha sorry boy, I couldn't resist pranking you one last time!" Oh...these were the kind of candles that would never stop burning. Did that mean my wish would never come true now? "Oh see what you did you old idiot, you made him upset on his birthday! I told you it was not a good idea. Oh honey I'm sorry, you know your father, he loves to be a clown" she apologized and normally I loved his jokes, he liked pranks and magic and all of that and I did too, but now...my wish didn't come true. Still, I could at least try to make it happen and that would start right now.

"Oh no it was funny, thank you dad" I said and Oreste laughed, patting my shoulder. "I'm glad you say that. Now come, have some cake and let's open these presents of yours, alright?" he asked and I nodded, walking over to the coffee table that was filled with many many presents. I felt guilty. Even after years of having lived with my adoptive parents and knowing that they did just truly love me and would do anything for me, I still felt guilty when they went out of their way to make me happy. I once again felt like an inconvenience. I knew logically that I wasn't, but if you have been taught that everything you do was just bad from the moment you were born, it was hard to change the way you thought.

Still, I opened the presents and I was so very thankful for all of what I had received! I mean...they really went out of my way to make my day and I was so happy, even if that negative shameful feeling still sat in my stomach. But they got me a bunch of stuff that I had really wanted. But my favorite present that I got was an old vintage record player. I had wanted one for a while but I never got around to buying one, because I loved music, especially old music, like classical blues or jazz and I had wanted to get to the roots of the music that I loved by listening to the original versions.
