"I was just looking out for you!"
"I didn't ask for that! Christ, leave me alone!"
Without a second thought, you slam the door shut. You shove your hands in your pockets, grumbling to yourself as you walk down the hall. Yeah, you and your best friend of eight years just had a massive fight. You're both on the same police force, so of course, he's overprotective. It's cute most of the time, but you just learned that he sweet talked the chief into taking you off a mission. He didn't want you put right in the line of fire.
You scoff, kicking at the ground as you speed up your pace. You know him - he'll come after you. That can't happen. This isn't something he can just apologize for. Truthfully, he wasn't really in an apologetic mood. He was trying to justify his actions. You're a God damn police officer, it's your job to protect the public. So some missions are more dangerous than others - it's what you've trained your entire life for! The argument comes flashing back in your mind, making you sniffle and tear up.
'"So you were just going to what? Forcefully bench me? Joon I'm not five! I'm an adult and I chose this career! You don't own me!"'
'"But-"'
'"If I get hurt on the job, I know I'll be fine!"'
'"What? Why?"'
'"Because... ugh forget it!"'
'"I was just looking out for you!"'
'"I didn't ask for that! Christ, leave me alone!"'
You feel a little bad, but you don't bother turning around to face him. He needs to own up to his mistakes. Of course the argument was much longer than that. It probably lasted a good ten minutes of the two of you yelling at each other, but that was the end of it. You've had enough. What you didn't want to tell him... if you got hurt? You were going to say you'd be fine since he'd be taking care of you. But you didn't for some reason. You couldn't bring yourself too. His face would fall and he'd look really guilty. Wait... isn't that what you want?
You groan, leaning against the nearest wall and steadying yourself. None of this is going to be solved by you saying you know he'd be there for you no matter what. If you want to solve this, you need to be a big girl and wait for him to apologize. You're not in the wrong here, you know that. This is your job. He can't dictate that. He's your best friend, not your father. With another sigh, you shake your head and go back to your office...
~Three Days Later || 6:30 p.m.~
"We have a 10-71 in progress! Get moving!" 10-71. Active shooting. You know that code all too well. Being an officer in a big city prepared you to hear those numbers all the time. What you weren't prepared for, however, was facing your best friend after three days of ignoring him. Normally you'd go get a coffee with him in the morning, eat a nice breakfast and talk until you're inevitably called in. These past three days have been different. He royally screwed up this time. Treating you like a little kid is unacceptable.
You let out a huff as you gear up, checking to make sure you have everything. Of course there's a shooting in progress on the closest highway. Of course there is. That's exactly what you needed right now. No one knows the cause yet, but after the shooting is over you'll find out. Hopefully you can take a few in alive.
"Here," Namjoon's voice says. Your left eye twitches, but you take the extra mag from him regardless. You make sure your utility belt has everything, your bulletproof vest strapped on, your pistol loaded. After everything is secure, you clear your throat and turn to him.
