Thoughts

Sirius has been living at the Potter's house ever since he ran away from his parents house. He has been sleeping in the guest room and helping with the chores as much as he could. He got up in the morning and helped Euphemia or Mia Potter prepare breakfast and then practiced Quidditch with James. In the evening he would discuss politics with Fleamont Potter and James. It was always polite conversation, and, as grateful as Sirius was towards the Potter's for taking him in, it definitely wasn't his lifestyle. He wasn't one for routines. For reliving the same day over and over. And, deep down he knew that, 'this town will never change'. He would sometimes look at the highway that ran close by. 'People come and go, it's all the same'. No matter how often he told himself he loved it here, the quiet life wasn't for him. He 'never learned any bodies name'. But that didn't matter because all of the teens in the surrounding area couldn't wait for a chance to leave, go 'to any place that is far away'. But, worst of all was, that Sirius couldn't talk to anyone about it. James and his parents would say they understood but they never did. They lived in their large mansion at the far end of the town and never had much contact to the muggles within. By the second week of summer, Sirius was already sick of the routine and just wanted to break out of it. He thought this would be just another summer. He would probably pick up smoking again. Old habits die hard. One morning, it was probably a Wednesday, a boy with honey coloured eyes and soft dirty-blonde hair approached the front porch of the Potter manor Sirius was standing on. "Hey I'm Remus Lupin, the exchange student from Czech Republic. Is this Potter Manor?", asked the boy. "It is indeed. And I am the one and only Sirius Black. Pleased to make your acquaintance oh sweet sir Lupin.", replied Sirius always with a flare for dramatics. Remus giggled and went to the car parked by the road to get his trunk out of the back. Sirius came closer and took the bags out of Remus' hands. "Let me help you.", offered Sirius as he brought the bags up to the door and opened it for Remus. "James Fleamont Potter! Get your ass down here. The cute exchange student you did not tell me about is here!", Sirius yelled up the stairs. He had barely called when a disoriented James came stumbling down the stairs. "Oh, hey, you must be Remus. I'm James, nice to meet you.", James introduced himself. "Ah, potěšení je na mé straně (pleasure on my side/ the pleasure is all mine), James.", replied Remus. Sirius looked strangely flushed after hearing this tall cute guy talk in Czech which he, though he didn't understand a word, find strangely arousing. Sirius quickly tried to hide his blush but Remus had seen. "Ay, moje zlato, you like?", he teased. Sirius was starting to go crimson and quickly excused himself back to the front porch to light another smoke.

After some time, Remus joined him on the front porch with a glass of Mia's iced tea and a copy of Handle with care by Jodi Picoult. Sirius turned his head slightly towards the guy sitting next to him on the wide steps of the mansion. "Good book?", he asked with genuine curiosity. If he had told anyone he read they would have laughed but Sirius was actually quite smart and loved reading books. "It's a very good book. I enjoy books by the author.", replied Remus looking up from the words printed on the page. "Maybe I could borrow it when your done.", suggested Sirius. Remus giggled softly making Sirius smile until the latter caught on and understood that the sweet kid was laughing at him. "What?!", he asked slightly defensively. "You read?", asked Remus still laughing. Sirius glared at the lad. "Of course I do! For what do you take me? Some uncultured swine?!", replied an over dramatic Sirius. Remus frowned slightly. "I'm sorry zlato, I didn't mean to insult you. I just didn't think you were the type.", Remus hurried to explain. Sirius just gave a wry smile. "It's ok. Most people think that anyway. I guess I don't look very smart. But it's ok. At least I look drop dead gorgeous!", countered Sirius always the modest person. Remus laughed again. "So, what is there to do around here?", queried Remus deciding to set his book aside. "'All we do for now is sit and wait'", answered Sirius dismissively. Remus looked confused for a moment before answering. "Well, that doesn't sound very interesting." "That's all there is to do 'In our idle town'", replied Sirius glumly. "Prosím tě, I'm sure there is more to do than that.", countered Remus optimistically. Sirius frowned at him throwing his cigarette on the floor and trampling it with his foot. "No, luv, I assure you there is nothing more to do. I would know by now, don't you think?", said Sirius awfully siriusly. Remus laughed a bit. "Ale princezno, if there isn't anything to do, 'we invent our own little games', at least that's how we do it u nás doma. (At our home)", explained the Czech lad. "You know what, cutie pie, now that I think about it, there is the football stadium around the corner. You would probably like going there. Uh, and 'when the lights out at the stadium', it's really relaxed there.", Sirius told Remus. "That sounds absolutely amazing! Musíme tam zajít! (We must go there)", exclaimed an excited Remus. And that settled the deal.

At 10 that night, Sirius grabbed one of his leather jackets, his packet of cigarettes and a lighter and snuck out of his room and down the stairs. He waited for a few seconds to make sure no one else had woken up before he slowly opened the door. As he closed it and walked down the porch, he made sure to skip the second last step. It creaked sometimes. Sirius walked around the house to Remus' window and waited for Remus to climb out. A few minutes later, he did. He was wearing an oversized hoodie and had a horrible bed head. "Hello princess, you ready to go?", mocked Sirius. "Tady je jenom jedna princezna a to jsi ty.(there is only one princess here and that is you)", replied Remus fully aware of Sirius' lack of understanding. Sirius blushed and looked away slightly uncomfortable and embarrassed. Sirius cursed a bit under his breath and made a mental note to get himself a Czech to English dictionary next time he visited the muggle bookstore. Remus chuckled at Sirius and made his way towards the stadium whose lamps looked scarily over the small town. It was a clear night and one could make out each and every star. Sirius and Remus made their way steadily towards the stadium making sure to take a detour before reaching the grocery store to make sure not to be seen by the homeless men lurking behind the garbage cans. They didn't take long to reach the deserted football field. Sirius jogged over to one end of the pitch and sat down leaning against the goalpost. "Come here, princezno.", chuckled Remus calling Sirius to come over to where he was standing in the middle of the field. Sirius tilted his head slightly looking at Remus questioningly before he complied. The taller boy stood in the middle of the field looking up at the stars. He started spinning in circles his gaze still fixed on the stars above. "What are you doing?", asked Sirius curiously. "I am 'making life a spinning arcade.'", answered Remus dully. Suddenly, Remus flopped down on the dew covered lawn and lay his head down, his eyes never once looking away from the sparkling dots above. Sirius lay down next to him and put his head on Remus' chest.

After half an hour of just lying there, in the middle of the field, looking up at the countless stars and the constellations they formed, Sirius took a look at his watch. It was 11:30 pm. "Remus, you are new here but this town has very strict rules 'and curfew's at midnight'.", pointed out Sirius. Remus got up and held his hand towards the Black heir. "Then lets head home. We can go to that cliff early tomorrow morning. Then 'we watch the sunrise'.", suggested Remus barely suppressing a yawn. He was still tired from the long trip and couldn't wait to hit the bed. "Sure thing Remmy.", replied Sirius. Sirius then looked at the Czech boy just to find him looking fearfully at the full moon that stood high in the sky. Fear ran down both boys' spines as Remus' shirt began to rip along his back and shoulders. "Shit!", exclaimed Sirius as he desperately focussed on his animagus form. He envisioned the Grim that was his animagus trying desperately to focus on all the details. With a silent pop of magic, the Black heir turned into a Grim. By now, Remus tranformation was almost completed and there stood a wolf. The Grim pounced determinedly on the wolf doing his best to hold him down. The wolf struggled for an instant before he went completely limp. He was playing dead. The Grim was well aware of this tactic and did not lift his weight of the creature under him. The wolf gave off a heartbreaking yowl and looked pleadingly at the Grim that was constricting his movement. Eventually, the wolf curled up and fell into a far from peaceful slumber. The Grim didn't ones close his eyes despite his drooping eyelids. He kept his eyes pealed and stood guard while the werewolf slept. The dog walked in circles around the other, always looking if there was some other kid that, due to bad luck, coincidence or destiny, happened to wander into the deserted stadium. Till the break of dawn, Remus lay in his wolf form and Sirius kept guard in his animagus form. When Remus woke he had a panicked look on his face before he saw Sirius towering over him. "Remus, did you not think it was important for the Potters to know about your...uh...furry little problem?", asked Sirius, the tremble in his voice slightly betraying the real hurt behind those words. "Sirius...I'm...I thought...Sirius", stuttered Remus as tears came rolling down his face. "Už mě nebude mít rád (He won't like me anymore)", mumbled the boy as more tears rolled down his cheek. "Do...you..do you...H-hate m-me now?", stuttered the werewolf looking up into the other's stormy silver eyes. "No, Remus, I do not hate you. I just wish you had told me. I...I really don't care you know. I mean, if you are planning on staying here longer, you should tell the Potters. James is also an animagus, you know.", Sirius replied his voice firm and determined. "Th-Thank y-you Siri.", said the boy with a wide smile plastered across his face. Sirius then held out his hand to help him up. As they walked back towards the Potter Mansion, Sirius pouted cutely. "What is it, princezno?", asked Remus. "Now we missed the sunrise.", Sirius explained the cause of his poutiness. "That's okay, zlato, the sun will rise again tomorrow.", soothed Remus as they walked back, a silent agreement passing between them to never leave each other's side again.
