A/N: So, just a quick update. I have summer holidays so.... I will be spending more time updating my oneshot collections. Maybe, maybe I might try writing a bigger project that has been sitting in my notes. For now, I present one of my favourite ships and definitely comfort characters.......

REGULUS X JAMES

"You might be dark, but only because you needed to be. You are the darkness that lets the stars shine. You are the reason they can be beautiful. And I, I look past the stars. At the darkness behind them."

Like every night, Regulus sat at the top of the astronomy tower and swirled his wand through the shadows. A long time ago, he had learned a simple spell that made it possible to animate shadows and bend them to one's will. Of course, he used it to create little bunnies and creatures to keep him company. Regulus Black could have been very different had he had a different childhood. He hadn't. So he was a small ball of teenage angst with fluffy hair. Which, honestly, was as adorable and sad as it sounds. He wasn't exactly approachable either. So he sat, playing with shadows and watching the stars.

James was in his last year of school. He would soon be out. He had already received letters from several ministry offices, companies and Quidditch teams to join them. His plans were quite different. After having broken up with Lily, he planned to travel to America or Asia and explore the world. He wanted to see the world. James was not a conventional pureblood who would settle for an arranged marriage, children and a home in wizarding UK. In his contemplative mood, it happened that one night, he found himself wandering up to the astronomy tower.

Regulus looked at the stars and a tear rolled down his cheek. He thought about his brother leaving school next year. His thoughts soon redirected to the insufferable Potter heir. Regulus may have had a tiny, small, little crush on the guy. Who didn't? He wasn't stupid though. He had heard the rumours of James being asked to join all kinds of jobs. The guy was practically a celebrity. He had definitely moved on from school stuff. Regulus doubted James even cared about his time here. He was probably to concerned writing back to all those people. To his surprise, the very guy he was thinking about appeared in the doorway of the tower. Regulus huffed. James saw him, shrugged and went to sit down anyways.

"What? Can't be bothered to give little old me space?", Regulus asked. There was more bite in his voice than he wanted to be. James just shrugged. "It's not like it's your space. I mean you do have a life beside this, right?" Regulus scoffed. "Right, 'you got a new life'." James looked taken aback. "'Am I bothering you?'" The Black gave a quick nod before training his eyes back on the stars.

Tears kept falling out of Regulus' eyes. He tried to wipe them away. He had forgotten that the mother-hen James Potter himself was sitting there. "'Do you wanna talk?'", Potter offers. Regulus waits a moment before giving a tight nod. Tears kept falling down Regulus' cheeks. "It's weird. Like everyone is always getting the best out of their lives and here I am. Not long til I'm done and nowhere closer to knowing what I want to do.", Regulus whispered. James just cocked his head. "Have you thought about who instead of what?" Regulus nodded. "It's like whatever I imagine, in whatever scenario, I am always the moon to the earth. 'I go round and round'. Nobody really cares about me. The 'satellite'.-" he buried his face in his hands "-They all care about the earth and I just, I become the darkness." James chuckled. "Well isn't that deep. Have you considered becoming a writer?", he joked. The Black heir looked up at the older student with a tight smile. Leave it to Potter to crack a joke during a breakdown. Regulus quickly averted his gaze and created a small earth out of shadows. He made a moon and let it circle around the earth. Then he made the earth gobble up the satellite in one quick bite. James jumped a little at that.

"You know that's dark magic, right?"

Regulus quickly tucked his wand away and got to his feet. "This was a mistake. 'I don't wanna talk to you.'" James went to grab his arm. Regulus quickly went down a few flights of stairs. James looked down from the top. "'I can see you're lonely down there', I'm here for you.", chanted James. Regulus just curled up in the bend and hugged his knees to his chest. James hurried towards him, "'Don't you know that I am right here?' Talk to me", the boy whispered urgently. "'I don't wanna talk to you.'" James looked taken aback. He put a hand on the younger boy's shoulder. "Then let's not talk. I'll just 'Be there for ya' when you need me, ok?" Regulus smiled a little. "Just to be clear, I have never used that spell against anyone.", he clarified. James' mouth tilted slightly.

James offered Regulus his hand and the two made their way back to the tower. "Look.", James whispered, pointing at the stars. Regulus just smiled and let his head fall onto the other boy's shoulder. "You know I'm still dark, right? That's not going to change just because I talk to you.", Regulus said after a few moments of peaceful silence. James took a blind leap of faith and clutched the boy's face in both hands. He looked into the gray eyes for just a moment before slowly leaning in. James brushed his lips against Regulus'. The other boy was too surprised to react. Just when James started pulling back, ready to deliver a heartfelt apology, Regulus pulled him back in. Their lips crashed together. James bit Regulus' bottom lip and their tongues met. It was wonderful. Every one of their crazy teenage fantasies and their very pureblooded parents' worst nightmares. And Regulus had never been happier.

When they finally came up for air, Regulus' perfectly styled curly hair was slightly less perfect and James looked like he had just gone for a quick ride on his broom. They looked flushed and their faces were split by huge grins. James enveloped Regulus in a hug and softly whispered into his ear: "You might be dark, but only because you needed to be. You are the darkness that lets the stars shine. You are the reason they can be beautiful. And I, I look past the stars. At the darkness behind them."
