Charlie was nine years old when his favorite sister got a letter that asked her to attend Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. He was infinitely happy for her and helped her pick all the school materials int he magical place that is Diagon Ally. He loved the idea of his sister being able to do real magic. Not just the hokus-pokus-rabbit-out-of-the-hat type of magic. You can imagine how surprised little Charlie was when he found out Lily's friends could do magic too. This was five years ago. Today, Charlie and his two friends were hanging out at the park when Severus happened to walk by. "Hey Snivellus!", shouted one of Charlie's friends, "Where's your girl?" Severus hung his head. He couldn't believe he was being mocked by fourteen year olds. Charlie knew his friends were idiots and he wished he didn't depend on them for his social status. Especially when his friends mocked Sev, he felt like punching them in their runny noses. This bullying had been going on since they were in kindergarden. Charlie thought it was as good a day as any to stand up for his sister's friend. He stood from the bench they had sat on and went over to his friend, grabbing him by the collar. He pulled up slightly. Charlie was just a bit taller than the other two, but enough to be plenty intimidating. "How many times do I have to tell you to leave him in peace before it penetrates your thick skull, eh?!", he snapped at the boy. The smaller male was visibly shaking. Charlie was always good natured and kind. He walked over to Severus. "Let's go Sev. I know a nice little ice-cream parlor. My treat.", he offered. Severus nodded slightly and followed the enthusiastic boy.

They made their way through the small town and towards the little shop. Charlie took out a few pounds and counted the money. "Hey Sev, I have enough for one large one with sauce or two small cones. Would you mind if we share the large one?", he asked the other. Severus looked taken aback before nodding. "Sure, let's share, if you don't mind.", he replied uncertainly. Charlie talked to the lady behind the bar and asked for a scoop of strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, chocolate chip and mint and chocolate. He picked a chocolate sauce and asked for two spoons. "On a date? I would love to meet the lucky girl.", the lady mocked lightheartedly. "Ugh...no...a friend and me decided to share." The lady laughed and handed him his order. "Here you go darling." Charlie took the order to the table Sev had found. "Here you go.", he handed Severus one of the spoons and he himself tried some of the chocolate ice cream. Severus was, as always, worried about getting in trouble. "Charles, where are we allowed to go, do you know?" Charlie looked at him with a smile: "we can 'go wherever we want 'cause no one cares that we¡re gone.'" Severus thought for a second. "Well, 'This town don't got much to do. You and I haven't got much to lose.'" Charlie giggled at this before his expression turned stern again. "Look, I am so sorry for how those two behaved. I really am. Its just...'We are the worthless, cursed with too much time. We get into trouble and lose our minds.'" Severus just smiled at the boy. "Its ok. I get that behavior all the time from the guys in school. You know, they guy who adores your sister, he's a complete prick. He is the leader if the gang." Charlie looked horrified. He knew his sister and Severus had parted ways after he had called her some type of mud-thing. It was childish really. "'Why why why why why why why why why'", Charlie mumbled. He reached over the table and took Sev's hand. "They're not half as good as you.", he reassured the other boy. Severus smiled gratefully and gave Charlie's hand a squeeze. "Thanks, Charles." Charlie scowled at him. "Don't call me that. Anything but that." Severus grinned: "How about Chip, huh?" Charlie scowled again. "Whatever." Severus smiled at him. Charles then smiled at his friend. "'So do you wanna leave everyone in this place for good?'", he asked. Severus looked at him questioningly. "I wish we could.", he replied. Charlie's eyes widened. "Well, pack a back, 'We'll meet at ten.'" And so they make their way home preparing for their great escape. At ten, when the sun has set and the stars are shining bright, the two boys sneak out of their window and make their way towards the main road. There they look at the signs showing the names of villages in the surrounding. "Where to?", asks Severus. "Anywhere but here. This road leads to freedom in both directions." And so they begin their journey towards an uncertain destination. Running away from their problems, responsibilities and burdens and following their dreams.
