Memory Wipe

"How's this one?" you ask, giving a little spin. The mini dress was a light blue with white and yellow flowers adorned on it. It was quite strappy at the top but went straight and flowy by the time it got to your hips down to your knees.

"Yeah that one, definitely"

"Alright, cool"

You step out of shot for your camera to change out of the dress you had settled on for you upcoming date with Chris. Iris and Kyra were sitting on facetime with a very confused Loki to help you decide again.

"So you're really doing this then?" Iris asks after trying, and failing, continuously to talk you out of going out with him. You wait till you're back in sight to answer so you wouldn't have to shout too much.

"I really am" you finally reply, slumping in front of your phone in leggings and a baggy, stained t-shirt.

"y/n for god sake this is stupid, you genuinely love each other and you're going to date someone else?"

"I don't know what you expect, he's been pushing me away for ages"

"I know that's not true, when we were first properly introduced on that call a while back, me and Kyra both commented on how happy and content you both seemed, isn't that true?" Iris turns to Kyra who nods quickly, backing up her counterpart without question.

"Yeah, we were, but then nothing developed, he refuses to be seen in public with me"

Iris looks at you with a softer expression, Kyra sat looking between her and you, trying to decide what either of you were thinking while Loki fussed on her lap.

"I don't think this is ultimately good" she starts "but.. I do think you'll learn something from this, it might be good for you in the long run".

You straighten your back and give a single nod of triumph at convincing Iris you knew what you were doing. At least, it should've felt like a triumph, but in actuality there wasn't much feeling of achieving anything if you were completely honest.

"Thank you. Look, I've got like three hours until I have to leave so I'm going to get ready."

Kyra gives you a warm smile and a little wave, picking up one of Loki's paws to wave at you as well, making him whine and bury his head into her lap as protest. Iris doesn't move but gives a curt "have fun" before ending the call, leaving you sat staring at a blank screen with just a clock filling the silence.

"You look lovely" Chris preens as you approach him outside the restaurant, outstretching his arm for you to take. You thank him and return the compliment while taking his arm, following him into the establishment. You'd done some digging and found that the place was kicking the backside of four-stars on most rating websites so felt comfortable in your outfit choice for the level of class that was to be expected.

Taking your seat, you both order drinks, a white wine for you and a red for him. The conversation doesn't take off as you expect it to once the waiter leaves, stranding you in a stiff silence with Chris.

"So, um, how was work?" you fumble out eventually.

"Yeah it was, well it was fine. You were there though so there's not much to say there.."

Damn it, good point.

You laugh through your nose and smile, picking up your menu again despite already deciding on a very reasonably priced grilled salmon with steamed veg. Chris follows, picking his own up again and scanning down the various options. You had no clue whether he had also made his mind up or not but you were grateful he was reading it either way. The waiter returns with your drinks and you make an active effort to not down the whole thing in hopes to make the night a bit better. Chris on the other hand, doesn't.
