Shoko Nishimiya x Mute Male Reader

Wandering the streets after a long and hard day at school is the highlight of my day, the sun shining brightly as it leads my path. I love it outside, it's what many take for granted. If I could leave the city and venture in the woods everyday, it'll be a wish come true.

As I'm walking across a bridge I notice a girl giving the koi fish some bread, the expression on her face is one of loneliness. I decide to speak to her, well... try to communicate. As I walk up behind her I notice hearing aids in her ears, this made me smile a bit. I tap her shoulder and it scared her, she turned to me and I waved.

She was confused but waved back, I then signed to her, "You look lonely, mind if I join?"

Her eyes widened and she softly smiled, "I don't mind," she signed and she handed me a piece of her bread. We fed the fish for a while, then we were out of bread. She then turned to me and signed, "What's your name?"

"Y/N L/N, yours?" I signed to her.

"Shoko Nishimiya," she signed in return. "Are you deaf too?"

"No, I'm mute," I told her and she nodded. We then continued to sign to each other until she got a text, she had to go home. We signed our goodbyes and went our separate ways, that's where I remembered I should've gotten her number.

Luckily she was there the next day, she wasn't feeding the koi fish so the idea of her waiting there for me popped into my head. Then we started walking while signing to each other, we were just getting to know each other. I could tell it made her happy, it made me happy to have another friend that signs.

Then everyday from then we walked and signed with each other, learning more about each other everyday. It was actually very enjoyable having her to talk to, she seemed to enjoy it too. I was just happy to make a new friend that knows how to sign.

But one day when we met up she looked very upset, I didn't want to push her to tell me about it. So I signed some positive things to her and it seemed to of made her feel better. She then signed, "Is it alright if I tell you my problems?"

"It's always better to get things off your chest, so tell me as much as you want," I signed to her.

"I... I'm useless aren't I? I can't seem to be useful for others and some even push me away from doing things. I just don't understand... I know I'm a burden, I know I get in the way but it just feels I can't do anything without having to get help. It's why I don't like myself... why should I be here if I all I need is help from others?" she signed as she hung her head.

I quickly pull her into a hug, she was a bit surprised but she hugged me back. Her grip was tighter, I then feel something wet hit my shoulder. She's crying, I gently rub her back as she cries. It took a while for her to calm down but I let her take all the time she needed, it's the least I could do.

She pulled away from the hug and I wiped her tears away, "Do you feel at least a bit better?" I signed. She nodded, "Good. And I know what that feels like, being unable to communicate is hard. And people pity you, then they try to make your life easier when it really doesn't. It just reminds you how incapable you truly are, all I've ever wanted was for someone to treat me they way the treat a someone else. You know, making jokes, having things in common, and just... a good friend in general. But that's the challenge, not many want to have to do so much for people like you and me. Then there are the ones that are too generous towards people like you and me."

She softly smiled and nodded in agreement, "I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels that way," she signed.

"If you ever need talk or just wanna hang out with someone you can come over to my place, if you want to that is," I signed.

"That would be nice," she signed back. I gave her my address and she had to go home after that but I was really happy that she opened up. Then a few days later someone knocked at my door, I opened it and it was Shoko.

"Hello," I signed as I smiled at her.

She smiled back and signed, "Can we hang out?"

"Yeah, come on in," I signed and let her inside. We had a lot of fun with each other, we played some video games, then we went on a walk, and when we came back we made lunch together. After all of that we sat in the living room and signed to each other, it was just to get to know each other better.

"I should get going," Shoko signed.

"Ok, if you need to escape you can always come to me. Whether it be that you just need to talk or runaway, I'll be by your side," I signed to her and she smiled.

"Thank you, Y/N," she signed as we walked to the door. She puts her shoes on but before she leaves, she stands on her toes and kisses my cheek. My eyes widen and as I look at her I notice her face became red, then so did mine.

"I'll see you soon," I signed to her and she nodded. She quickly left, I smile to myself as I place a hand over where she kissed. I don't need communication to know what I'm feeling.
