"Can you tell me your name?" A doctor shined a light into Jennifer's eyes as she blinked a few times. "She's awake. Little groggy." The doctor said again.
Jennifer looked around the room as the doctor backed up from her and started pushing buttons on a monitor. She looked down at herself in a hospital bed. White sheets, blue spotted gown, and tubes hanging from every which way. Jennifer looked down at her hands, pale and thin. She ran her fingers through her hair and it was slightly tangled. She coughed for a moment feeling a burning sensation in her throat. She placed a hand on her throat and made a pained face.
"I'm Dr. Wilson. Your throat will feel better in a few days. But if you can, can you talk? Tell me your name?" The doctor asked Jennifer. She sat up a bit and grimaced at the soreness of her body.
"Je...Jennifer." Jennifer spoke, her voice hoarse. The doctor smiled at her and examined her for a moment.
"As far as I can tell Jennifer you are in good health considering. Do you know where you are?" The doctor spoke.
"Hospital." Jennifer said softly.
"This may come as a shock. But you have just woken up from a coma Jennifer. How are you feeling?" The doctor asked.
"Ho...how long?" Jennifer asked. The doctor sighed and clasped his hands together in front of him.
"Two years." The doctor stated. Jennifer gasped slightly and her eyes grew wide. She shook her head slightly from side to side. She attempted to think, to think of anything. "There were no records for you. No missing person's report. Nothing. So we didn't know if you were DNR or not. So we aired on the side of life. Nurse Bradley took wonderful care of you. She never gave up hope. Glad she didn't. Can you tell me anything about yourself? Any family we could call for you? I am sure they have been worried sick." Dr. Wilson asked. Jennifer wracked her brain for answers but nothing came up. She didn't know anyone they could call for her. She didn't even know her last name. After a few minutes of silent panicking Jennifer spoke up.
"I don't remember anything."
