Sigyn stood at the entrance of Stark Tower. Hands in her pockets and a nervous tap of her foot. This was it. Her son was in this building. Seemingly living a normal life. With the people Loki both loved and hated. How could he have not come across him throughout the years? Had he been in New York this entire time? Or was this a new place of residence? And why did he live with the Avengers? According to her husband the Avengers were a group of unsavory characters, except for a select few. The doors opened and Thor stood in front of Sigyn with Loki at his side. A smile upon his face. Sigyn looked at him with a pained expression.
"If I knew it was him. I would have told you. I hope you know that." Thor said apologetically. Sigyn nodded. She knew Thor would have told Loki immediately if he knew this Nicolas character was in fact her son Nari. His illusion ever great, just like his father.
"Is he here?" Sigyn asked trying to peek around the two brothers.
"Yes." Loki said.
"Did you meet him?" Sigyn asked.
"Not yet. I wanted to wait for you. I just went to get Thor, to fill him in." Loki said.
The three Asgardians entered the building and were met with none other than Tony Stark. He smiled widely at them winked at Sigyn.
"Welcome. Sigyn is it now? Suits you. More Asgardians, great. And one living under my roof? Should have known. When Loki called I thought he was messing with me. Turns out for once the God of Lies was telling the truth. Little bastard has been parading himself as a Hydra kid. Should have recognized that magic immediately. The same as his witless father." Tony said pointing to Loki who scoffed at him. "He even spelled Wanda to believe his lies. Of all the places on earth he chose New York to lay his pretty little head of mischief." Tony laughed. "Anyways. He's upstairs in his room. Reading. That's all he does when he's not helping in the lab." Tony said.
"What... how... how long has he been here?" Sigyn asked. Tony gave her a sad look.
"A few months. He comes and goes. But these two weeks he's been here the entire time." Tony replied. Tony gestured for the three of them to follow him toward the elevator. He pushed the button and they all waited for it to arrive. When the elevator doors opened they walked in and there was silence. The ride up was silent torture.
"What is he like?" Loki asked Thor quietly. Thor smiled to himself.
"Quiet. Tall. Skinny. REALLY skinny. Smart. But mostly private. I've only met him a few times. The only person he hangs around is Wanda. Or Bruce in the lab." Thor said to his brother. Just then the elevator dinged and the doors opened. Sigyn froze. She didn't know what to do. What could she do? What would she say? Loki sensed her hesitation and leaned down to whisper in her ear.
"Come, darling." Loki said. Sigyn grabbed onto Loki for dear life and willed her feet forward. They walked into a large lounge area with a kitchen. Standing in the kitchen was a crowd. Some of the Avengers she recognized as Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, Clint Barton, Bruce Banner, Vision, and Wanda Maximoff were in attendance. Sigyn immediately looked at Wanda. Wanda took a step toward her and took her hand in hers.
"I am so, so, so sorry." Wanda said with tears in her eyes. "He said he was from Hydra. I let him place an illusion in my mind. Nicolas... I had no idea. I promise." Wanda continued. Sigyn smiled at the woman she just met. A knowing look passed between them. She knew if Wanda had known her son lived she would have told someone. Anyone would have. She held blame for no-one. She only wished for answers.
"He's in his room." Steve said. Tony nodded to Thor.
"I'll take you." Thor said. Sigyn gave Wanda a small squeeze to her hand then walked away with Thor and Loki at her sides. They walked down a long hall way. Doors lined the walls with numbers on them. Sigyn assumed this was their sleeping rooms. As they neared the end of the hall Sigyn halted. A door numbered "12" stood before her. A soft blue light was glowing from underneath the door. Loki looked to Sigyn and smiled at her. Thor walked ahead and knocked softly on the door.
"Come in." A soft voice echoed from behind the door. Sigyn felt like she was hit with a truck. Tears ran down her face as she inched toward the door. She paused with Loki at her side as Thor gently opened the door.
Floating in mid air emitting a pale blue light, sitting cross legged holding a book titled "Hamlet" in one hand and the other hand flipping a page was Nicolas. His pale skin emitted with a slight glow. His bright blue eyes fixated on the page he was reading. His short curly black hair floating in the air with him. After finishing the page he looked up.
"Nic..." Thor said hesitantly. Sigyn and Loki stood in the door way. Hand in hand staring at their son. Nicolas' expression that of complete composure. Nicolas closed his book then slowly descended to the ground. His feet planting firmly and his hands fiddling with the book. He looked between Loki and Sigyn, not saying a word. He flipped his hands and conjured the book away. A small twitch of a grin flew onto Loki's face. "Nic." Thor said again. Nicolas turned his gaze to Thor. Still showing no sign of emotion. "This is-" Thor started but Nicolas cut him off.
"I know damn well who these people are. And I only have one question." Nicolas said, his voice sounding similar to Loki's in angst.
"Who on earth decided now was the time for a family reunion?" Nicolas said then put his hands in the air. "Hmm?" He gestured towards his parents. Sigyn's mouth fell open.
"Nari?" Sigyn asked breaking Nicolas from his obvious rage fit. He snapped his gaze to her's and his eyes went soft, almost sad. Sigyn broke from Loki's grip and walked forward. Nicolas did not move. He looked down at his mother. The resemblance obvious. "I did not want to surprise you. I just... I thought... why didn't you..." Sigyn began to speak to her son but the emotion was too much. Her eyes brimmed with tears and her voice cracked.
"Why didn't I come find you as soon as I escaped that god awful realm known as heaven?" Nicolas asked tilting his head. His head just resting on the top of his shoulders. Sigyn nodded. "Well I did. Many times. Turns out devil magic is more powerful that it seems. Just thought I would wait it out..." Nicolas said. His words coming out harsher than he intended. Sigyn began to sob. She latched herself onto her son. Nicolas did not move. And after a long painful few minutes of his mother soaking his shirt with her tears he pulled his arms around her and held her close. Nicolas pulled his mother's face away from his embrace for a moment and placed a hand on either side of her reddened face. "I never left you."
