YEAR: 1957

"Mich, do ye need help picking out a dress?"
"No, I think I got one. And don't call me Mich."
"Aw, why not?"
"I dunno, it just bothers me."
"Oh well then I'm sorry, Michelle. Better?"
"Better," I looked to her and smiled. "Be right back," I hopped into another room to get my dress on; a few minutes later I came back out.
"Wow, I'm speechless," she stared at me. "Now how come I can't look that good in that dress?" she complained.
"I dunno," I said while applying my make up. "So when are you and George going out?"
"Tomorrow."
"Really?" I sounded surprised.
"Yeah, we're gonna go on a date at the fair tomorrow."
"Well I hope ye have fun."
"Are ye goin or no?"
"I don't think so."
"John?"
"Yeah."
"Don't let him get to you Mich." I turned around and stared at Jude; he smiled and whispered, "sorry."
"If ye get lonley, I think Lucy will be there."
"I know but, it just won't be the same without ye."
"I'll talk to Paul tonight about going. He doesn't fancy John, so don't get yer hopes up." Jude gasped with excitement and hugged me.
"Oh my god! I hope ye can go. It would mean a lot to me and Lucy."
"What about George?"
"It'll mean a bunch to him too!" she was smiling uncontrollably. "Ok now, lemme do yer hair." I turned around so she could style my hair. "Ye don't have much to work with."
"Shut up! Just style it a little, curl my bangs I dunno."
Jude took a glob of hair gel and slid it across the side of my head, then she took a few curlers and stuck them in my hair. Not long later my hair was done; it didn't look half bad.
"Thanks Jude."
"Anytime Mich."
"Do ye wanna get slapped?" I asked her. She just laughed and handed me my shoes.  Then we heard a knock on the door, It was Paul; we came with flowers in hand.
"MICHELLE YER LITTLE BOYFRIEND IS HERE!"
"COMING MUM!" I was yelling while putting my other shoe on.
I ran down the stairs as fast as I could and opened the door.

"Hi."
"Ello love, these are for you." He smiled and handed me the bouquet of flowers.
"Aw Paul, ye didn't have to," I was blushing uncontrollably.
"But I wanted to," he gave me a wink. "Shall we go then?" he asked; I nodded. He gave me his hand and we began walking to the diner; we arrived about 10 minutes later. It was really busy; a bunch of guys dressed like John were in there, all trying to pick up random birds.
"Maybe we shouldn't eat here," Paul said.
"No, no, its...fine," I smiled and he opened the door for me. "Ta."
We sat at an open table, which was hard to find, then a waitress walked over with 2 cups if tea.
"Thank ye," Paul politely said.
"Ta!" The waitress looked at me funny then walked away. "So Paul, ye know that fair tomorrow?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Well Johns band is playin, and he wants us to go see him."
"But Michelle, I don't like him, he's so disrespectful and obnoxious."
"Please Paul! He wants ye to be in his band. I think this could be a big step towards yer career!"
I waited for him to respond; eventually he opened his mouth and spoke.
"Fine, we'll go-" I cut him off.
"OH THANK YE PAULIE! THANK YE!"
"What's the big deal, ye could have gone without me."
"I know, but it'd be weird hangin around George and my sister the whole time."
"What about Lucy?"
"She'll be working. Oh Paulie I'm so excited. I can't wait to see ye first performance with The Quarrymen!"
"It won't be tomorrow, ye know that right?" He started to laugh, but he stopped as soon as our food came. We didn't talk much while we were eating. After we ate, Paul paid and we left for my house. Another 10 minutes later we were back at my house.

"I had fun tonight Paulie."
"Me too," he smiled. His eyes looked so nice in the moonlight. I began to daze off looking into is beautiful hazel eyes; I'm pretty sure he dazed off into mine. Eventually I snapped out of it.
"Well, I'll see ye tomorrow," I gave him a kiss on the cheek. He smiled and waved goodbye; I waved back. I walked into the house to only find Jude rummaging through my clothes.

"WHAT ON EARTH ARE YE DOIN WITH MY CLOTHES?" I shouted.
"I needed somethin to wear to the fair tomorrow."
"But why are ye goin through my clothes?"
"Cause ye have better clothes than me!"
"But all my clothes are rocker clothes, yer a mod, George likes mods, don't be wearin my clothes."
"I guess yer right."
" I know I'm right. Now get out of my room." Jude walked out smiling as I shut my bedroom door behind her. Then the phone rang downstairs.
"WHO THE HELL IS CALLIN AT THIS BLOODY HOUR!" Mum yelled. "WHAT DO YE WANT AND WHY ARE YE CALLIN?" It was silent for a while, then mum spoke again. "MICHELLE!" I ran downstairs and picked up the phone.

"Ello?"
"Ello love."
"What do ye want Lennon?"
"Just wanted to call ye up. See if ye were comin tomorrow." I could tell he was smoking.
"Yeah I'm comin. Why do ye want to know?"
"Just wonderin love." I heard a lady scream in the background.
"JOHN WHY ARE YE ON THE PHONE AT THIS HOUR!"
"Look, I gotta run, love. See ye tomorrow."
"JOHN!"
"IM COMIN MIMI!"
"Well bye." He hung up. I walked back upstairs; I walked into Jude's room.

"I just had the strangest conversation."
"Oh really? With who?"
"Take a guess."
"John?" I pursed my lips and nodded.
"Why did he call ye?"
"I don't even know. This lady named Mimi told him to get off the phone. She sounded like a bitch."
"Look, I gotta get some sleep. Get out of my room."
"Alright night."
"Night."

I walked out of her room and walked into mine, laid in my bed and thought to myself.

What if George doesn't really like Jude.
What if Paul doesn't show up tomorrow.

A million thoughts raced through my head. But I thought of one person more than anyone else.

John.
