YEAR: 1959
"JOHN IT HAS BEEN A MONTH SINCE YER MUM DIED, YE HAVEN'T SPOKEN TO MIMI AT ALL! SHE NEEDS YE JOHN!"
"Alright Paul, stop ye yellin."
"I WILL NOT STOP YELLIN UNTIL YE GO AND SEE HER!"
"PAUL NO ONE GIVES A FUCK, STOP YELLIN!" The boys could hear Lucy yelling from 3 floors up, I'm surprised they never got a noise complaint.
"Told ye to stop yellin."
"Nows not the time to be acting smart."
"Ye want me to go see Mimi, fine, let's go see Mimi." John grabbed his shoes and put them on. "We'll, c'mon." Paul shrugged and walked with John. "Still can't believe yer makin do this. Mimi has Jude, Michelle, and now, Victoria. I don't see why I have to go."
"John yer not getting it, she has a special bond with ye that will never be the same with any of the girls."
"Whatever."
John placed a fag in his mouth and began smoking. John offered Paul one, but he refused, he knew how much I hated him smelling like cigarettes. About half an hour later they got to Mimi's and knocked on the door.
"Who is it?"
"John!" The door opened.
"What do ye want?"
"Mich, where's Mimi?"
"Don't call me Mich."
"Fine, I'm sorry, where is she?"
"Not home at the moment. Ye can come in if ye want. She should be home soon. She's out for a walk with Victoria and Prudence."
"Thanks."
John walked into the house, Paul not far behind. As Paul walked in he gave me a small miss on the cheek. I pulled Paul into the kitchen when John walked up to his old room.
"Why did ye bring John?"
"Mimi's been going through a rough time, I thought John visiting would help."
"Actually, Mimi's been fine. She was distraught at the start but she's alright."
"That's good, so do ye want us to go?"
"No, ye can stay, Mimi would like to see John." I gave Paul a smile. He leaned down and gave me a kiss. "What was that for?"
"Nothin, just sayin that I love ye." I gave him another smile.
"Love ye too."
Paul and I were gazing into each others eyes. We snapped out of our trance when we heard the front door open.
"Oh hello Paul, what are ye doing here?"
"I brought John." Mimi froze, no one could tell if it was out of excitement, or terror.
"Where is he?"
"His old room."
"That's not his room anymore." Victoria stepped forward.
"Yeah Paul, its not." I looked to him, I could tell he was confused.
"Who's room is it?"
"Prudence's"
"You and yer husband moved in? Isn't it crowded?"
"That's the thing Paul. I was gonna surprise ye on yer birthday, but I guess I'll just say it now. Lucy agreed to let me move in with her, so now I'll be closer to ye."
"And my house becomes less crowded." Mimi let out a laugh.
"That's amazing." He smiled, wrapped his arms around me, and kissed me lightly on my forehead.
"I'm going to go see John." Victoria smiled and walked upstairs, child in hand. When she got upstairs, the door was closed, she knocked a few times and walked in. "John?"
"Oh, hey Victoria."
"You can call me V, if you want." She smiled as she put Prudence into her crib.
"Alright."
"I know you're not use to the idea of having a sister."
"I'm getting use to it, just yer accent is making it harder. Its making it hard to believe that yer my real sister."
"You'll get use to it, don't worry."
"So Michelle, yer leavin me."
"I am."
"Yer clothes are leavin me."
"They are, thank god."
"I'm gonna miss ye."
"I'm gonna miss ye too." I hugged Jude, "Feel free to visit any time." I loaded the last box into Lucy's car. I walked up to Mimi and gave her a hug. "Thank ye so much for letting me live her, ye have been a wonderful mother to me." I could tell Mimi was crying.
"Thank ye dear, please be safe. I love ye."
"Love ye too." I walked out of the driveway and into the street where Lucy's car was parked. I waved goodbye to everyone.
"Yer gonna miss them."
"Just drive," I said as I wiped a tear from my eye.
The car ride was pretty fun, Lucy turned on the radio and switched it to the rock station, Elvis was playing. We began singing together and having a blast.
"So do ye have a job?"
"No, but I'm lookin."
"There's a record store near my shop, they're hiring, go see if they'll take ye."
"Alright."
"Good." Lucy pulled up to the record store.
"Wait, I thought we were going to yer apartment?"
"I love ye, ye know that, but yer not moving in until ye get a job."
