YEAR: 1963
"Paul, its been a month since we left America and Michelle is still all depressed."
"John, she has the right to be depressed."
"Says who?"
"Says me! Ye don't understand what she went through, ye have a nice healthy child, and well, she wanted that. And y'know, when it was ripped away from her..." Paul looked down at the floor, "she just will probably never be the same."
"Has she even stepped out of her room?" Cynthia asked. Paul looked into the hall, getting a brief look at my bedroom door.
"No, I've been sleeping out here latley."
"Why?" Cynthia became confused.
"This whole thing was my fault, I don't wanna see her in pain from something I caused."
"Paul, stop sayin that! Ye didn't cause it!"
"YES I DID!" John slapped Paul across the face.
"NO YE DIDN'T NOW STOP SAYIN YE DID!"
"Her birthdays comin up," Cynthia tried changing the subject, "what are ye gonna get her?"
"I'm pulling a lot of strings right now, trying to get her the perfect gift."
"What is it?"
"Not tellin."
"Fine be that way, cheeky."
"Twat."
"ALRIGHT!" Cynthia stood up from the couch, Julian was in her hands, wrapped in his little blue blanket as always, "Paul, we should get goin, thank ye for havin us over, and please, tell Michelle to call me."
"I'll do my best Cyn."
"Thank ye, te ta!"A few weeks past and before I knew it, it was 3 days before my birthday.
"Hey Michelle?" Paul knocked on my bedroom door.
"What?" He opened the door.
"I'm gonna be gone for a few days, Jude is comin over to keep an eye on ye." I sat up in my bed.
"Where are ye goin?"
"Gotta go to America to pick up ye birthday gift, it can't be shipped, I have to personally pick it up."
"Oh," I didn't believe him, "have a safe trip."
"Michelle, please leave the room."
"Why?"
"C'mon please, for me? Ye don't have to go in the..." Paul cleared his throat and looked down the hall at what was now a baby room, with no baby, "spare room, just please, at least come into the living room, kitchen something!"
"Why!"
"MICHELLE IM WORRIED ABOUT YE! YE BARLEY EATIN AND ALL YE DO IS SIT AROUND IN HERE ALL DAY!"
"Well, I don't want to get out." Paul came over and sat next to me on the bed.
"Michelle, the docotr said we can try again in 6 months, that was a month ago, 5 more to go." I was silent. "Alright, I'm gonna leave now," he kissed my forehead, "love ye."
I didn't reply. He twisted his face and walked out of my room, closing the door behind him.PAULS POV
I left the apartment and headed for the mini. I drove to the airport, it was a little quicker then usual, not a lot of traffic. I got on his plane, I wasn't wearing a disguise, just a hat and some sunglasses. I slept the whole way to America, I was woken by the plane landing. I was in Tucson, Arizona, getting Michelle her birthday present. I walked into St. Mary's Home for Girls.
"Ello."
"Ah, you must be Mr. McCartney."
"Yes, I am."
"You are breaking a lot of rules by doing what your doing."
"How so?"
"This takes years-"
"And I've only had to wait a month."
"Yes, exactly." The lady dug through her paper work. "I see you requested a girl, we have one, she'll be 1 in a month. Would you like to see her?"
"Yes please."
"Right this way."
The kind lady showed me into the nursery, there were a few rows of young girls.
"This is her." I took a hold of the baby girl.
"Does she have a name?"
"Not yet, we let the parents decide. Would you like to speak to the mother? She lives a few minutes away."
"Sure, thank ye."
"Alright, you can stay here if you want, I'll be right back."
She stepped out of the room to make the phone call. I held the beautiful girl in my arms, the lady was back before I knew it.
"Alright the mother will be here in a few minutes."
"Thank ye."
"Leave the girl here," the lady took her and placed her in her bed, "come on, the mother will be here shortly." I walked out into the front and met the mother.
"Hi, I'm Linda Eastman, you must be Paul."
"Yeah, I am, nice to meet ye."
"Where's your wife?"
"She back in Liverpool, she isn't feeling well."
"Oh, I'm sorry. So what do you want to know?"
"Any diseases or any rubbish like that?"
"No, not that I know of, she was a very healthy baby," a tear ran from Linda's eye, she didn't want to be in the orphanage. "Can we wrap this up, I need to go."
"Yes of course, very nice meetin ye."
"Mhmm," she looked back to me before leaving, "take good care of her, please." I gave her a hug.
"No worries." Linda walked out without saying another word.
"Now Mr. McCartney, please fill out the paper work."
"Yes, of course."
I filled out stacks of paperwork to take the beautiful girl home.
"Alright Mr. McCartney just one last thing, what do you want to name her?"
"Heather, Heather Louise McCartney."
"Alright, she's all yours, be right back." The lady flashed me a smile and left the room. She shortly returned with Heather in her hands. "Here you are."
My eyes lit up as I held my new daughter in my arms.
"Thank ye, bye!"
"You're welcome, nice meeting you!"I spent the night in a nice hotel in Arizona, it was very close to the airport. Heather and I woke up the next morning very early so we could get the first flight back to Liverpool. It was the day before Michelle's birthday when Heather and I got back to the apartment. I went to the baby room, which now has a baby. I walked into Michelle's room.
MICHELLE'S POV
I heard Paul walk though the front door and into the spare room.
"PAUL!"
"Yes love?"
"What are ye doin?" He walked into our room.
"Just hidin yer birthday present. Do ye want to see it?"
"Sure." I dragged myself out of bed. Paul looked at me, he saw how skinny I got over the month.
"Ye seem to be doin better love, actually talkin to me."
"Yeah, Jude kinda cheered me up."
"That's good love."
Paul walked me out of the room and we started walking towards the spare room.
"No Paul, I don't want to go in there." I turned around and tried walking into the living room. Paul stopped me.
"Michelle, please."
"Fine."
"Close yer eyes love."
I closed my eyes and Paul turned me around. He opened the door and guided me in. I felt my hands touch the crib.
"Paul, I don't want to be-"
"Shhh, open yer eyes love."
I looked down, and there she was, a beautiful baby girl, sleeping in the crib.
"Paul, she's beautiful," I turned around and gave him a tight hug. I gazed into his beautiful hazel eyes as he wiped a tear from my shimmering emerald green eyes. "I love ye so much, this is the best gift ever, thank ye."
"Why don't ye pick 'er up."
I turned and faced the crib and picked her up.
"What's her name?"
"Heather."
"Hi Heather, I'm yer new mum."
She opened her eyes and gave me a small wave. I was crying tears of joy.
"Thank ye Paul. I love ye."
"I love ye too." He leaned down and gave me a kiss.
"How old is she?"
"She'll be 1 next month, December 31."
"I love her so much."
"I knew ye would. Wanna go see John and Cyn?"
"Sure," I started bouncing Heather up and down in my arms.
"Let's go, love."
He placed his arm around my waist and we walked to the lift. We knocked on John and Cynthia's front door.
"I GOT IT CYN!" John opened the door. "Paul, Michelle! Ye finally got out of bed!"
I moved out from behind Paul. "CYN!"
"WHAT?" she walked out of Julian's room, holding Julian, in his blanket. "Oh my god, ye have a kid! Why do ye have a kid?"
"As a gift, I adopted Heather."
"She's beautiful Paul."
Cynthia handed Julian to John and took Heather from my arms. Paul wrapped his arms around me and kissed the back of my head.
"Come in, sit down."
"Ta." Paul and I had a seat on the couch, Cynthia handed Heather back to me.
"So, are ye two gonna try to have yer own kids?"
"I dunno, we'll see how it goes with Heather, and we'll go from there."
"Smart, how old is she?"
"She'll be 1 next month."
"She's only a little older than Jules!" John let out a laugh, "hey maybe they'll get married."
"I dunno," I pinched Julian's cheek, "ye never know."
