The scene at the wall's opening was not much different compared to the box

The scene at the wall's opening was not much different compared to the box. At least half of the boys stood longingly peering into the Maze, waiting for an answer to all of the ruckus within it.

The pace of my feet slowed as I approached the chattering bodies before me. Only Newt had taken notice to my sudden company.

He lifted his chin meeting my gaze, his arms crossed contemplatively, "What happened with the box?". "It was empty", my voice had earned Gally's attention, who had stood merely a few feet away from us.

I sent him a small smile, which he took as an opportunity to limit the space between us. Though my eyes were locked onto the Maze, searching for Thomas.

"What do you mean empty?", the worry held in Newt's tone had now drew the attention of the other boys. My eyes flickered from the Maze, to Gally, then back to Newt before I spoke.

"There was no Greenie. No supplies. The only thing we found were two viles", I carefully chose my words afraid of frightening them by my own uneasiness.

"What is that supposed to mean?", he placed both of his hands on the back of his head as he paced back and forth. In a matter of seconds, Newt became distracted by Thomas and Minho stepping out of the Maze, "What the hell is going on out there?".

The group of Gladers parted allowing Thomas and Minho to walk through them. "What the hell have you done now Thomas?", Gally let out grumpily.

As we trailed behind the two runners, I made an effort to catch up to Thomas. My hand found it's way around Thomas's arm securing his attention. "Thomas, we need to speak later. It's important", I whispered.

He seemed to have read my thoughts, nodding as Gally pulled me away. Gally shot me a questioning look, which I quickly shrugged off as Thomas began to explain what had happened today in the Maze.

"We found something. A new passage, we think could be a way out", Thomas continued to make long strides toward the center of the Glade, the group trailing not too far behind. "Really?", Newt seemed skeptical but didn't question any further.

This time Minho spoke up, "It's true, we opened a door. Something I've never seen before. Think it must be where the Grievers go during the day". His last sentence seemed to have stunned the other boys including myself, "What?".

Thomas shifted his body to look at me, "Their way in, could be our way out". Gally didn't take the notion lightly, he was upset. His hand skimmed over my side as he stepped forward moving me behind him defensively, "Yeah or, there could be a dozen Grievers on the other side".

I reached for Gally's hand in an effort to calm his quick temper, to get him to listen, but he pressed further. "The truth is, Thomas doesn't know what he's done. As usual!", his voice grew louder as he pulled his hand away.

Thomas swiftly turned around stopping everyone's movement, "Yeah well at least I did something Gally". The two boys moved closer until they were face to face. "I mean what have you done? Aside from hide behind these walls all the time", Thomas spat.

Their little quarrel had fuelled Gally's rage. You could tell by the way he stood, how his body tensed, his glossy stare. Frankly, I was terrified by the unpredictability of how he would react.

"Gally", I warned but my voice went unnoticed. "Let me tell you something. You've been here a few months, I've been here three years!", he pointed. "Yeah you've been here three years, and you're still here Gally! Alright, so what does that tell you? Maybe you should start doing things a little differently", Thomas retorted.

Gally's fist clenched, his knuckles turning white, only releasing when I held onto his upper arm, "Thomas is right. Please, just listen to him". His angered expression vanished becoming replaced by utter shock.

"What?", he sounded hurt as if I had just stabbed him in the back unexpectedly, only for me to twist the knife in return. "Hey! Stop fighting. It's Alby. He's gotten worse, they had to move him to the medhut", Chuck ran over to us panting cutting the argument short. The other boys shortly followed after him leaving just Gally and I.

"You're siding with him?", he whispered. "Gal. He's just making more sense right now", I shook my head as my hand slid down to his. He furrowed his eyebrows as he yanked his hand away, "No. Don't touch me".

I watched him leave as I fought back the urge to chase after him. I wanted him to open his eyes. To see that Thomas was the answer. The key to getting us out of here, but Gally's pride always got the best of him.

It sheltered him, keeping him stationary in his own little world because that's all he knew. All he wanted to know.

I took a deep breath clearing my head of the negative emotions that had been projected, shortly finding myself walking into the medhut.

The Keepers had all gathered in the little room with the addition of Jeff, Thomas, and now I. They whispered with concern as they stood over Alby's limp body.

Alby's state was evidently worse than Ben's. Ben was only in the first stages of changing, but he had already become a major threat. Though, Alby's case was different. I couldn't even bare to look at him. He was already slowly giving into the plague caused by the Griever's venom.

If I had been a med-jack I'd say his days were numbered and I couldn't help but feel pity for him. "What if that's what they're for. Why else would they send these two syringes?", Winston held out the two viles showing them off to the other Keepers.

"Winston's right, what if this saves him", Thomas took a vile from Winston's hand then moved closer to Alby. "We don't even know what this stuff is. We don't know who sent it. Why it came up by itself. I mean for all we know this thing could kill him", Newt thought out logically.

"Newt, he's already dying. It can't make things any worse than they already are", Thomas stated. I now gained the courage to speak, "There's only one way to find out", their eyes now directed themselves to me as if pondering if they should just do it, no questions asked.

I could feel Gally's stare burning into my skin, permanently marking me, but I didn't dare to look at him. My focus was on Alby, who began moving around, grunting and mumbling incoherently. Newt looked over to me as if seeking for my permission which I answered with a nod.

"Alright, do it", he crossed his arms as he looked between Thomas and Alby. As Thomas approached him, Alby had gone ballistic. He thrashed around grabbing onto Thomas's shirt, until someone jabbed the syringe into his chest silencing him for the time being.

My hand flew over my mouth trying to conceal the loud gasp that left my lips. Though before I knew it, the familiar feeling of a callused hand had dragged me far away from the current issue before us.
