Anna’s world tilted as she bit down on her lip - the metallic taste of blood keeping her grounded as she stumbled back from the entrance of the tent.
Cedric - the same guy who promised he’d always be there, who promised he’d never hurt her, who promised he’d loved her was a liar. But then again, in a way, she had lied too.
He wasn’t the only one who had made promises of love.
And then Draco came.
Her fists clenched tightly as her head swam with questions. Why didn’t he just tell her? Was she not even worth it for him to at least have the human decency to break up with her before going off and snogging Cho bloody Chang? Anna might’ve had feelings for another boy, but she had never kissed him. In fact, she had broken off all ties with him - for Cedric.
The flap of the tent finally opened, and Cho Chang came out and smiled at her - as if she hadn’t been shoving her tongue down Cedric’s throat only seconds before. “Anna! I just came to review some notes with Cedric before breakfast. You know, just regular school stuff.”
If I could just grab your thick neck and shove your head down a toilet-
But she only masked her emotions with a false smile. Shoving all the hurt, the anger, the betrayal down where Cho couldn’t see it. Anna would get to her later. “Right. By the way, your lipstick is a bit smudged - right there.”
Cho flushed, wiping at the smudged crimson by her bottom lip. “Ah, yes. Thanks for that.”
“I didn’t know you were seeing anyone.”
If I can’t tear out her fingernails one by one, the least I can do at the moment is make her squirm.
Honestly, Anna didn’t know why she felt so enraged. Yes, she was in a relationship in Cedric, but she didn’t think she felt the same way about him as she once did. Not like she felt for Draco. Though Anna had a sinking feeling that whatever things Cho and Cedric had been doing together happened long before anything with Draco. Bloody hell - she’d bet the two were positively chummy back when she was still in her coma!
Breaking up would’ve been easier. At least then, she wouldn’t have felt so hollow. So...replaceable.
Anna smiled grimly as she continued. “Anyway, I just came here to uh..talk to Cedric before the 3rd task.” Talking to Cedric about ‘allowing’ her to see Draco seemed so ridiculous now. But believe her - the two were going to talk about a lot more than just compromise.
“Right, I’ll be off then.” Cho offered her a wave. “By the way, Anna, I really like your blouse! We should go shopping sometime - after all, since you’re Cedric’s girlfriend we should hang out a lot more!”
“Sure!” Anna offered tightly, though she wanted to bite her tongue off as soon as Cho disappeared from sight. She grimaced. I’m burning this shirt after this.
She inhaled deeply, and with a newfound sense of strength, she strode into Cedric’s tent, where he greeted her with one of his all-too-familiar charming smiles. “Anna, hey! What are you doing here?”
At that moment, memories flashed through her eyes.
The first time they met in the library during her first year. Their first date. Their first kiss.
How long has he been lying to me? How worthless am I to him that he can’t even tell me the truth?
Wordlessly, she swung back her shoulders and allowed the momentum to carry through her arm as she slapped him in the face. Hard.
