I walked down the crowded high school halls. I sighed and rolled my eyes as I spotted the all so popular, Dan Howell. To no surprise, he had a few girls surrounding him and his guy friends off to the side. His eyes landed on me and he winked. I glared at him and shook my head as I walked past. He has been trying all school year to pull me in and it's just not working. Deep down, I think he knows that it won't work, or he could just be stupid and never get the hint. Either way, it didn't matter to me. I could keep him off of me easily. He had enough girls to last a lifetime anyways. Though, some were nice and I wish I could warn them, but once you're pulled in, it's too late. Books in hand, I walked into the empty class, spotting my English teacher and smiling towards her. I sat my book down on the desk all the way in the back of the class.
"Good morning, Mrs. Maron." I said, walking up to her desk. She had admitted many times that I was her favorite student, not only because I made the best grade in her class. I usually came into her class for lunch and my free periods. I helped her grade papers and do random work when she needed.
"Good morning, Aliah. How's that story of yours coming along?" She asked, causing me to shrug. She was the only person that knew, but I loved writing stories and she had promised to take my manuscript to a publisher when I finished it.
"I still feel like it's terrible." I admitted to her."I'll be the judge of that and if I think it's terrible, you can change a bit, but I'm sure that I'll love it." She poked my shoulder. I laughed and sat down on her desk. She didn't mind.
"I was told that we will have a new student in class today. Would you mind showing them around, Aliah?" Mrs. Maron turned, taking a paper from her desk.
"Of course, I will. Can I bring them in here for free periods since that's pretty much all I do? Plus, I need a new friend.. Wait, boy or girl?" She laughed at me. "Boy. His name's Philip Lester." I nodded. Good, I don't need a friend that's a girl because she'll quickly get sucked into Dan's grasp. "Yes! I can't be friends with any girls because they get sucked away by Mister Popular." She knew who I was talking about as I complained a lot to her about him.
"Oh, by the way. He's here today. You can get a tiny head start on attendance." She rolled her eyes at me and turned to her computer. There was a knock on the door and I saw the principal stick his head in the door.
"Good morning, Mr. Evans." I shouted. His laugh filled the air and he stepped all the way into the classroom. "Good morning, munchkin." He was a family friend and has been calling me that since I was little. I saw a boy step into the classroom and instantly knew that it was Philip.
"Mrs. Maron, this is Philip Lester. Philip, this is Mrs. Maron.. and Aliah, who is always in here because she has no friends." Mr. Evans joked. "Hey! That is not my fault and stop making me look bad in front of the new guy!" He laughed and left a few seconds later.
"Hi, Philip. Ugh, can I call you Phil? Philip sounds too formal." I rambled. He smiled and nodded. "Don't be shy! I'm your guide for the day and I love making friends. By the way, Mr. Evans is right about me having no friends because they are all girls and seem to be pulled in by the popular and attractive, Dan Howell." I shrugged.
"Well, he doesn't seem like a guy I'd be friends with." I shook my head, smiling at him. "But you've already got a friend that won't leave you!" I said enthusiastically, raising my hands up to point at myself. I earned a laugh from him.
"Uh.. You can put your bag down in the seat next to... Well, the seat that is the only one with books on it as I am always the first into class. I'll get you an English book!" I told him, jumping off of the desk and walking over to the cupboard with all the books. I looked through the books until I found our year's. I grabbed the big green book and a workbook. I walked back to the seat that Phil was at and sat them down.
