I pulled out my laptop, opening the sticker decorated top. I heard my phone buzz just as the laptop screen came to life, making me lean over to the end table to grab it. I clicked the home button, lighting the screen up and I saw a text message notification. Of course, it just had to be Dan.

I got just the right person to be my tutor, didn't I? ;)

I sighed and unlocked my phone, typing a reply to him.

I'm only doing it so that I can get into a summer program.

I put the phone down onto the bed, watching as my laptop starts up and the password lock shows up. I quickly type in my password, hearing the tap every time my fingers hit a key. My phone buzzed again from beside me and I ignored it, pulling up Spotify. I started my music, only to quickly pull up my manuscript afterwards. I decided not to ignore my phone anymore. I grabbed it and unlocked it, not even caring to look at the notification as I knew it was Dan.

What summer program?

Why do you care?

It only took a few seconds for him to reply. I quickly got lost in conversation though.

Because I can. Now, tell me.

Just something for writing and film making. Things like that. You wouldn't understand though.

Why wouldn't I understand?

Because you're a popular jock who is failing all his classes?

You hardly know me. Judgmental much?

Well, tell me about yourself, Mister Popular.

Maybe one day, I will. Not today though.

I had thought I was actually getting through to him. Maybe he wasn't the guy I thought he was. But even if he wasn't, why would he act the way he does?

Phil and I had talked about meeting up to walk to school together in the morning, so as soon as I had gotten dressed in my American Horror Story jumper that said 'Normal People Scare Me' on it and my light blue skinny jeans, I was out the door. I walked down the pavement, sky still a bit dark. I approached Phil's house and saw him sitting on the steps in front of the door, looking at his phone.

"Phil! Stop looking at your phone and let's go." His head shot up and he started laughing. He jumped up, shoving his phone in his pocket. We began to walk down the pavement.

"You like American Horror Story?" Phil asked, pointing at my jumper. "Yes! Oh my god, I'm glad I met you." I exclaimed.

"Who's your favorite character out of all the seasons?" Phil asked. I paused, thinking. "Season one.. Definitely, Tate." I said and Phil nodded. "Agreed." He said. "Season two... Lana Winters." I continued. "..and season three... Misty Day or Nan." Phil nodded.

We approached the school. Phil and I raced to the door, him beating me by a split second. I claimed that it was because he had longer legs than me."No, you're just slower than me." He said, swinging open the door. We were some of the few people at the school. I liked to get there early, though sometimes I stay up late working on my manuscript and it's not possible for me to get there early. Getting there early means that I can get to my locker without all the struggle of getting through the crowd.

I got to my locker, putting in the combination and failing, but watching as Phil put his in and opened his locker quickly. I hit the locker before putting my combination in again and actually opening it. I grabbed my English books and looked at the decorations that I had taped up. Pictures of my younger brother and I- as well as some of us, my older brother, and older sister- were hung up. A few drawings and doodles were hung up as well. I closed my locker, noticing that Phil was giving me a weird look. "Sorry, I spaced out for a second." I apologized.
