Ahana groans as her phone alarm buzzes from her side table. She looks down and sees Aishu pillowed on her chest and she slowly lifts her head and gently places it on the opposite pillow, shushing her quietly when Aishu starts to groan in her sleep, before turning to the other side and switching off the alarm. She checks the time and it's 5:30 in the morning, the perfect time to go and get ready as Ashwin's mom has already informed her that they would be going to their home temple for a special prayer for Aishu. She grabs her towel from her luggage and goes and freshens up and decides to put back her pyjamas, since it's way too early to be tying saree and getting ready. She opens the room door to hear mild devotional song ringing throughout the house and the gentle scent of lavender incense wafting through the entire house. She walks down and sees a few of the women of the house at the living room, talking among themselves and then turn to look at her, a gentle smile gracing their faces when they meet her eyes. "Morning maa" one of the aunty greets her and she returns the greeting before making her way to the kitchen, where she knows Ashwin's mom would be.
"Morning ma" she greets as she enters the kitchen, sitting on the stool near the island of the kitchen. "Morning papa, naala toonguniya?" she asks and Ahana hums "Ah, nala toongene ma, Aishu vanthone paaduthuta" "Amava? Archiriyama irruku" "Ama ma, ennakum than but it's normal, avalode metabolism ipo konjum low ah irukkum, ipo thaane ava, one week period mudinji recover ayitu irukka, apdithan tired ah irukkum. Oru varthule seriya airum" she reasons and Ashwin's mom hums, turning around and placing a cup of coffee in front of her, gently ruffling her hair with a smile. 'Ama, epo start panuchi avaluku?" Ahana asks as she idly stirs her coffee "Pona varam than da papa, school mudinji veetuku vantha apo oru maariyave than iruntha. Avunge amma vum ketu pathange but ava onnum sollele. Apro than enkite vanthutu, paati, ennode pants le blood irruku, ennaku enna airuchi nu aluthukite sonne" "Achchoo, pavam pulle bayanthuruchi" "Hmm, apro than na sonne ithu kete vishiyam ille ma, naale visiyam than nu sollitu, poi avunge amma kite sonne. Apro as usual, oru varam room le adachikidantha, apro ipotha mudijichi, so function vekirom" his mom explained and Ahana hummed. "Ma, mama veetle irunthu yaarum varale?" she prods gently as only Shana is there from her mama's side for the function. "Avunge function anniki than varuvange papa, ive yetho semester break ah so early ah vanthu help panrala, tho ipo help panikitu thane irukka" his mom says sarcastically and the both of them laugh.
Ahana then looks up at the clock on the wall and sees its exactly six and she finishes her coffee and washes it off at the sink, before bidding goodbye at his mom and walking out of the kitchen. "Avane marakama elupi vutru ma!" "Ah cheri ma!" Ahana obeys before running up the stairs. Since his room is in the same row as hers, she stops by his room and knocks on it. No one replies so she knocks again "Ashwin? You up?" she asks as she knocks again and still there in no answer. She tries the door handle and realises it's not locked so she opens the door and sees him flat on his front, his head turned to the window as he's fast asleep. Ahana huffs a small laughter as she shakes her head and walks over to the window, opening up the curtains, letting in the sun rays into the room. Sure enough she hears him groan and grumble from the back "Maa, curtain eh saathu ma" he grumbles in his low voice and Ahana stifles her giggles. She then walks over to the bed and grabs the end of blanket, counts to three silently and then with all the force her tiny body has, pulls it off him and throws it away. Ashwin startles awake, sitting up and squinting his eyes, trying to find who did that and then when his eyes finally falls on her he glares at her. "Panni, ipdiya oru aala elupuvange?" he complains as he lays down again but then is hit with the same blanket, right on his face. "Apro epdi elupuruthu? Kaana, raja nu konjikitu elupuva?" she teases and he hums "Aama, en amma apdithan elupuvange" he says and Ahana snorts "Cheri, aya rasa, poi kulingge, kovil ku ponum. Pothuma?" Ahana snarks and Ashwin laughs, talking the pillow and flinging it towards her. "Don't. You know what happens if you start this. And you need to get ready" Ahana warns but Ashwin pays no head to the warning, turning to his side and looks at her challengingly.
