"In your face Farrell" I heard Conor whisper as the number 15 grounded the ball in the 75th minute. Toms Dad was jumping up and down shouting "get in there" of course we were the loudest here, well my dad and Tom's Dad were. Which meant we would get pretty much all the players stare in our direction.
The number 15 player got Man of the match, I've never seen him before so I take it he hasnt been scouted for England yet. Probably wont be long until he is though. We met Tom and Ben outside the stadium. "Fancy a few bevs round mine after the win?" Tom started, "yeah I'm in" the number 15 player appeared out of no where.
"Luke meet Conor, Erin, Rob and Elizabeth" Tom's dad introduced us, "of course I know Conor. Who doesnt" they laughed and he shook hands with everyone, and hugged me, Mum and Conors mum. "So Erin, You keeping Conor on a tight leash?" He laughed but I was far from amused. Conor threw him a dirty look "I dont own him" I awkwardly laughed.
Luckily, we got separated in cars. I couldnt work out what this Luke guy was like. "I think some of the rugby lads are going to Tom's too!" Conor interrupted my day dream. I felt the nausea creep up again, I lowered the window leaning my head out of it. "Bye Erin, make sure you text me" Chloe shouted as we drove past, I waved. "Aww she seems nice" my mum said like I was a child finding new friends. Conor looked out the other window, he looked annoyed. "Yeah she helped me find the toilet" I awkwardly laughed.
I completely zoned out the whole car journey "I think were here" as my dad pulled up behind Mr Currys car. "Yeah looks like Tom's Cars here" Conor was the first one to jump out the car. "Come on Erin, it be fun" Conor opened the door for me. "Yeah, I still dont feel good though" I smiled "it wont be for long, just nice to catch up with Curry" I nodded as my parents followed us in.
"Nice place Curry" Conor admired the house "not too bad hey!" He laughed as he shoved a beer in Conors hand "what you drinking Erin? My dad will sort out your parents" he shouted over "just a water please" I smiled as he scrunched up his face. "As you wish" we all sat outside, the boys instantly started talking rugby.
"Not drinking today?" Luke wedged himself next to me "Not today" I laughed "so Erin what do you do?" I rolled my eyes at his attempt at small talk. But I couldnt resist playing along. "Finally a girl that appreciates rugby as much as I do" he raised his eyebrows at me.
"Luke stop flirting with Conors girl" Tom shouted, as all eyes turned to us and I nearly choked on my water. "Shes not my girl" Conor was the first one to snap and I couldnt help but see the sadness in his eyes. "Man he really likes you" Luke whispered in my ear which got Conors attention. "Hmm" my face dropped and I avoided looking at Conor. Luckily my parents just laughed, talk about awkward. I know I'm not a baby anymore but still.
Luke got up and joined the lads by the outside bar and my mum quickly filled the gap "see told you, Conor likes you. Well should I say love you" I could feel my face heat up and my stomach flipping. "Mum stop, not now" I stormed off to the bathroom, my head started to hurt and my body started sweating.
"Sweetie" I could hear my mother trying to call me back but I needed to leave. I couldnt find the bathroom so I found myself sitting on the stairs "what's wrong?" Luke followed me and sat in front of me at the bottom of the stairs.
"Just tired and want to go home" I smiled but I could see by his face he wasnt convinced. "You've just met me, why do you care?" I laughed to hide the seriousness of my question. "A pretty girl like you shouldnt be upset, that smile of yours is beautiful you should wear it more often" his cheesy line made me giggle like a school girl. "See that's better" he mirrored my smile.
"If you want to go home I can take you, I've only had one" he looked sincere "no dont worry, I'll get a taxi, you enjoy yourself" I made my way back to Conor "I'm going to go home, still dont feel right" "okay?" He didn't even look at me and then carried on talking with the boys. Mum tried to stop me from going but I was adamant I was leaving.
"Dont worry I'll take her home" Luke jumped in "you sure?" My dad questioned him "yeah no worries, I've only had one anyway" he smiled and shook hands with my dad. "Come on party pooper let's get you home" he laughed and put a hand on my back guiding me out the door.
Luke opened the door for me and let me get in before he got in. As we were getting in the car another car pulled up behind us, suppose more boys joining the party.
"Want to come in for a coffee?" The car journey was shorter than I expected. "Yeah why not?" He jumped out of the car and followed me to the front door. Thankfully I had my own set of keys to this house.
"Not a bad place" "it's my parents, I still live in Ireland with Conor" he was too interested in the pictures of me and Conor as kids to listen to what I said. "So what's the deal with you and Conor?" He stopped in his tracks and my body instantly froze. "Best friends" "pft yeah right, I've seen the way you look at each other"
My phone beeped, talk about saving me.
