"Tell me you're not on board with this?" I didn't know whether to scream or cry. Andy nodded his head. "Chloe can be nasty, if she finds out you'll never see that baby and let's face it this one will be in Ireland so not like you'll get to see it anyway" I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
"I won't be in Ireland" I sighed which got weird looks. "Conor has kicked me out I haven't spoke to him" the tears started to fall again. The sound of a phone broke the silence. "Conor finally" Andy held the phone to his ear. "I'm at the hospital with Erin" I could hear Conor talking really fast which Andy clearly didn't understand. "Conor, you need to come here. It doesn't look good" Andy signalled to Owen to go. "I'll see you in 5 minutes"
"We had a tactic session today so he's only round the corner. So you best go" Owen just nodded. "I'm sorry" he kissed my forehead and left. I grabbed my phone as I had no words for Andy and I didn't really want Conor here. Great missed calls from Mum and Luke.
Luke: when do you land? I'll grab you
Mum: honey I thought you'd be back by now, everything ok?xI couldn't face my mum yet so I text Luke back. I don't know. I'll let you know. Who knows if I'll be able to fly? Conor won't drive me back and I've not drove overseas before. The tears started rolling down my face. "What's wrong?" The voice I really didn't want to hear. "Like you care" I snapped.
"Erin, why are you in hospital?" Conor stared holes through my body. "I" I couldn't breathe. My chest started to feel tight and my breathes were short. He climbed on to the bed and held me, like he used to when we were younger.
When I calmed down, Andy pulled Conor to one side and explained everything that happened. "Why on earth did you even play!" Conor looked angry. "Why do you care? My coach wouldn't even let me talk. I didn't have a choice" "the coach was pretty mad, I seen her before the game and you can't get a word in edge ways when she's like that" Andy half heartedly laughed.
"Right I'll leave you to it, Erin I'll keep in touch Urm to see how you're doing" he smiled. No not to see how I'm doing more than likely to see your grandchild. I rolled my eyes and Conor sat on my bed. "Erin" just me and Conor great.
My phone rang - Luke. "Hey Luke, what's up?" "What time is your plane?" "I dont know, I can't come home yet" "why?" He panicked "I'll explain later" "well Erin, I'm in Ireland for a game against Leinester Wednesday, so if you stay out there we can meet and you can come to the game" "yeah sure, I'll let you know" "see you later Erin" "byee" 3 days and Luke's in Ireland against Robbie's team.
"Luke checking up on me" I smiled which Conor still didn't approve of. "Conor I don't know why you are here? You made your point. I don't need you" I emphasised the 'I don't need you' think I'm out of tears now and i'm just angry with the world. Angry at my coach for not letting me talk. Angry at Conor. Angry at Owen and his Dad. "We both know that's not true" which I threw him daggers for.
"Erin, I've missed you" I couldn't bare to look at him. Luckily the doctor walked in before I could reply "Miss Conroy?" He barely looked up from his papers. "I can confirm the nurse's conclusion was correct. I'm sorry for your loss" his voice was monotone clearly not sorry but carry on. "The other baby is fine at the moment but is still high risk until you get to 12 weeks. Which means minimum 6 weeks bed rest and vitamins which will be prescribed" he just reeled it out without showing any emotion.
"Can I take an aeroplane to England?" The doctor shook his head "absolutely not. Too high risk. But you are free to go. Just ring this number to book the scans" he handed me the letter and left. So I can't go back to mums. Great.
"Erin" Conor sat next to me "come home, I've missed you" I shook my head. "It's not fair. I'll take the coach and ferry back to Mum's. You made your very point clear"
I climbed out of bed and grabbed my stuff. Conor took my stuff out my hands and followed me. "Miss Conroy?" I turned to the doctor. "Try not to walk. Your body is weak right now and walking will put more strain on it now take a wheelchair to the car" I rolled my eyes "I'm not disabled" I muttered but Conor flashed a smile and grabbed the wheelchair.
As soon as we got to the car, Conor rang my mum. "You two finally worked it out?" She seemed so happy "yeah" my yeah and Conors yeah were completely different tones. "Mum can you come over? I need you" the tears started again and this time I couldnt stop them. "Yes I'll get the next flight. Conor pick me up from Cork airport" of course Conor couldn't refuse.
"I'll drive home and then Mum should be nearly there" I just nodded. I didn't want to be in this car with him. I just wanted my mum. I couldn't bare to look at him so I looked anywhere else.
"Erin. I'm sorry" "sorry doesn't cut it this time Conor. I'm done fighting with you about my life" he sighed. My hormones were all over the place as it was. "Erin, I want to help you with this baby. I'd rather be Uncle Conor than not have you in my life. I need you"
"There will be no uncle Conor. This is my baby and I'm proving everyone wrong. I'll do this on my own. I don't need you or anybody"
