"Alright class! Today, we will be learning about..." Ms. Hatsune turned around and got out a piece of chalk, preparing to write on the board. Anxiety spiked in Pico's chest as he thought about how the fiasco of last year begun with this exact sentence. "Aerodynamics! With eggs!" She said, finishing her sentence. The anxiety left Pico as he saw no students getting up and getting ready to attack.
"Your assignment is to throw your egg off the school building without cracking it! You have to find a way to shield the egg from hitting the ground and breaking, but still land it." She explained, "This will be a two person project, AND--" She said, raising her voice at the few students that got up to pick their partners, "I have already assigned pairs." She got out her clipboard.
"Girlfriend will be with Boyfriend, Whitty with Carol, Senpai with (the name of one of the girls in his background), Pico with Nene, and Darnell with... Hmm..." Ms. Hatsune tapped her chin. "I thought she'd be here today... Three days absent; not a good look." She set her clipboard on her desk. "I guess Darnell will work with-- Oh! Just in time! Darnell will work with Ms. Cassandra!" Pico, Nene, and Darnell gasped in horror as a girl in black clothing and dark red hair that was styled in a way that resembled horns entered the classroom. She smiled menacingly at the three. Ms. Hatsune put her hand on Cassandra's back. "Now, your old school says you were quite the troublemaker back then, but let's just put all that behind us." She said, and pointed to the empty seat to the right of Darnell. "You can sit there. You'll be working with the student next to you for a group project."
Cassandra nodded and took her seat next to Darnell. She waved at him. Darnell pretended he didn't see her, and continued to look to the front of the class while nervously sweating. Pico felt Cassandra's stare, but didn't look back at her. Later that day, Girlfriend, Boyfriend, Pico, Nene, and Darnell sat together at lunch. Boyfriend and Girlfriend were going over what they would use to protect their egg. Pico, Nene, and Darnell all sat in silence, still in shock from who they saw earlier.
"So... The project. Do you guys have any ideas?" Nene asked. Darnell ran his fingers through his hair.
"Sure. YOU only have to worry about that. Meanwhile, I'M worried about getting chewed up by my alien mutant partner!" He yelled.
"You can't talk about a girl like that!" Nene exclaimed. Darnell glared at her.
"That she-demon is NOT a girl!" He retorted.
"Alright. Let's just calm down. If Cassandra tries to pull anything, you know we've got your back, right?" Pico said to Darnell.
"Yeah... I was just hoping we didn't have to spend the school year strapped. But now..." Darnell said.
"I was expecting this year to be normal, too, but you can't have everything." Pico responded. Nene sighed, but then quickly stood up and got in front of Girlfriend and Boyfriend. Darnell and Pico wondered what she was trying to protect them from until they, too saw Cassandra approaching them. Pico got in front of Nene and was prepared to fight. Darnell, too was ready for battle. Cassandra stood in front of them, and completely ignoring Pico, she greeted Darnell.
"Hey, Darnell! So, what ideas did you have for this project?" She asked. Darnell stopped reaching for his lighter.
"Uh... I'm not sure yet." He said in a quiet tone.
"Okay. Well, meet me in the library or wherever when you have one. I'll be brainstorming, too." She said. Cassandra walked away. The group stared at her as she left.
"What do you think she's plotting?" Nene asked.
"I wonder if the rest of the goth punk kids transferred here." Pico said.
"Was she wearing an anklet?" Darnell asked. Cassandra didn't talk to the three for the rest of the day, so the only thing they worried about then was their project. At the end of the day, Boyfriend and Girlfriend waved Pico, Nene, and Darnell goodbye and walked home together. When Nene had reached her house, Darnell stayed with Pico.
"Not to be rude, but why are you still here?" Pico asked Darnell, who lived two blocks away from his neighborhood.
"Cassandra might be tailing me! Do you think I want to be alone while being attacked by her?" He said.
"She seemed pretty cool at lunch today so there's nothing to be worried about,---" "DARNELL!" Pico was interrupted by Cassandra. Darnell shrieked, pulled out his lighter, and pointed it at Cassandra.
"Don't come any closer! You'll get crucified, witch!" He threatened while standing behind Pico. Cassandra let out an annoyed groan.
"I'm not a witch, anymore! I got my sentence shortened and was on parole all summer." She explained. Cassandra then pointed to the anklet she was wearing. "This doesn't prevent me from going places, but it will deal a lot of damage to me if I try to turn into an alien. If it makes you feel any safer, I also have two different FBI agents on my case if I try to do anything with a gun. To explain what happened when I saw you this morning, I just thought it would be funny to give you three a scary look when I entered the classroom." She added. Darnell slowly put his lighter back and stopped hiding behind Pico.
"Are you allowed to hang out with Alucard, Hanzou, or Cyclops anymore?" Pico asked.
"No. We can't be within 50 feet of each other." Cassandra said. "So CAN YOU PLEASE HELP ME FINISH THIS PROJECT?" She said, raising her voice at Darnell. Darnell scratched the back of his head and laughed.
"Yeah. Sorry about that." He said. Convinced that Cassandra was no longer a threat, Pico went in his house.
